In practice it's not practical of course, but the law is the law.

In the US, not stopping is a serious offence, and they are very strict about this.

i concur. they are very strict...

in singapore we are not strict to implement that. only during driving lesson. after get licence...hack care

but when it involve in accident, the will investigate whether the car has stopped at stop line

who the hell would come to a complete stop when there is a clear view of the main road and there are totally no cars in sight?

i was once warned by TP when I slowed down but did not stop completely at the stop line even though road was clear. He said you should stop regardless of traffic condition. Crazy!

As far as i remember, during the driving test, you are supposed to come to a complete stop before the stop line. Once you have done, you can then edge your car past the stop line.

Though i also dont come to a complete stop in practice, but I can appreciate why we should do it. Coming to a complete stop will allow the driver more time to check the traffic condition before moving off again.

Stop at stop-line when traffic is clear?

Result is you get your hear-drums blasted by countless horns.

If I'm behind you, I will blast as well.

I was told years ago by my instructor the reason we should stop at the white line is because that is the traffic law.

Failure to stop at the white line during test will constitute a failure because it simply means you lang-gar pedestrian or car liao.

I remember instructor said that must come to complete halt before stop line, neutral gear and handbrake on even if there are no cars obstructing your turning. Then you check for traffic before moving off again.

Think never do that is immediate failure.

In the driving test? I see many others still stop way after the stop line and protruding in the ped crossing already.

cause if you cannot stop before the stop line in driving test means you either dont know how to brake or cannot judge the braking distant of your car. meaning you are very dangerous around traffice light and zebra crossing and T junction without traffice light.

Think the testers are mostly retirees.

My friend's dad became a tester after retiring from his policeman job.

They don't earn alot, and is meant to be an easy job.

Don't scare them. Wait they heart attack. haha.

Yeah my uncle too. all the tester are ex-policeman. but to qualify for this job is not easy. must have good conduct during whole time of serving the police. furthermore, cannot have a single demerit points in their whole live.

My uncle also tell me, there is no quotat to meet one. but he did mention, minister and rich ppl easier to pass. cause they hire trainer to trainer their son everyday. so they practise driving everyday before the actual test compare to us who can only afford 1 per weeks or if richer 2 time a week.

Did you really do that?

Seems like either your instructor is saboing you or your driving skills is.......SO GOOD that he feels safer for you to do that! Just joking.... [laugh]

Mine is SAF driving school 3 tonner course. That is mandatory for us (change down, brake, put to neutral then handbrake on) perhaps because of the larger vehicle. SAF driving school is always about defensive driving.

Perhaps commercial schools teach differently? I am not sure because I only needed a conversion to civilian class 3 after ROD. Never took outside lessons before.

this is a by right and by left question.... by right, under the law, u need to stop behind the stop line. But by left, like what you mentioned, no many people does tat

I think it's b'cos you're driving a 3-tonner. My private instructor did not teach me this. My friend who's also from SAF Driving School driving a jeep also did not do this.

So do you still do it??? [lipsrsealed]
