Proper payment procedure

hey!!

i recently scratched another car's bumper while parking. the thought of just disappearing did enter my mind, but i decided to leave a note with my apologies and contact number.

the person called. pretty polite. she quoted me 400, based on what her authorised dealer quoted her to respray the whole bumper and that she will only send in the car for fixing when she is going overseas etc, as she needs to use her car.

when i asked if she could just touch up on the part that i scratched, she went back to check with the authorised dealer who suggested that doing so would result in a two tone finish after more than 6 months. so she is quite firm on getting the whole bumper sprayed.

i've not been into a situation like this before, so i'd just like to get some advice as to whether it is fair that she chooses the workshop? or can i have the right to ask for her to go to another shop to get the bumper sprayed? must i spray the whole bumper or just touch up? should i only pay when she gets it fixed?

if everyone says that i should respray the whole bumper at the authorised dealer then so be it. i just want to understand that is the normal procedure, just so i'm not put at a disadvantaged position by her.

thanks!! would appreciate your advice.

First of all, kudos to your honesty. Good to ahve drivers like you around.

Next, if you have a workshop, you can chamsiong with her and get it done...but $400 seems like a fair price for respray.

Next, ask for the invoice before you pay, that should be the practice.

What's the model of the car that you scratched?

$400 respray bumper is expensive.

Normal Japanese sedan respray bumper will be $100 to $150 at outside workshops.

next time go and buy a hi card. there are many shops selling hi-card which is already registerd under someone else name ( totally unused card). I bought two hi-card before at hougang central

use that number for them to contact you. if prices too high or the other party very Kwai lan or asking for the sky, then dont pay. off the line and they will not be able to reach you.

mazda 3. hmm... thanks... should they get to choose the authorised dealer? or is it my right to choose for the garage?

well, strike a bargain with her.....AD also send out to get it done though.....and provide her the guarantee if she not happy, that it was already very kind of you to own up [rolleyes]

get your own workshop to quote also. AD usually quote higher than outside. i believe for a normal sedan shouldn't be too expensive. i got mine resprayed at below 200 also. e other party pay straight to workshop not me. pay only when invoiced. don't just pass her cash like that. or if she say no $, can just meet her up and do payment on e spot. 'cos i know of a particular car around my workplace, demanded 500 cash on e spot and few months later we still see e car with untouched. [rolleyes]

the other party has been pretty nice.

she seems alright with spraying at other workshops. but she's worried that the paint job wouldn't be as good or that it doesn't have a warranty.

just a question. even if they follow the exact colour code of the car, are there different "quality" of spray paint they use? even for the same colour?

and do you know of any spray shops that offer warranties on their paint job?

thanks!!!

Color mixing is done pretty well at reputable shops. Go find Angie from Sin Ming.....

Another option is go to a bigger workshop like STAR Auto which I did last time when someone kissed my backside. They should be able to match to the current tone of the colour.

Usually there is not really so call touch up.for bumper, most work shop will tell u to spray the whole thing.even if its a scratch on the side door, they will spray the whole side door.like what some bros mention,400 is a reasonable price from AD.anyway,we need more honest pple like u [thumbsup]
