ElDiablo Clutched September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 Oh no... The Proton-Lotus cars are going to bring down the average speed of F1 races. Admitting these sub-level teams. Does it mean that F1 is in serious trouble? As it is the rules, as mentioned by a fellow member, has changed to make the sport a tad more affordable than it used to. Even though the team is backed by the M'sian government and some very rich M'sian investors, the Lotus team has history with Formula 1 which ended in the 90's. Their return to the sport will only raise the bar again for the sport the same way Brawn did this season. Paired with a Cosworth engine, the Lotus team is set to shake things up and personally, I can't wait. ↡ Advertisement

ElDiablo Clutched September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 Haha I wish la bro but I seriously doubt...unless totally backed by the Gov in the form of STB and GIC hahaha The sponsors here are skeptical about their exposure to racing sports like Carrera Cup etc...the only drivers in Singapore that have made it big were probably self-sponsored and have a rich financial background. Somemore Sg no experience, at least M'sia has Proton which owns Lotus and its rich history... : (

Stary Turbocharged September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 Initially Lotus will build its cars in the former Bentley Le Mans facility in England. In time to come, they hope to set up a factory at Sepang and have all design and manufacturing done there. To raise Malaysians' motorsports competency is well and good, but to have a Malaysian F1 factory will mean few of the best F1 brains will want to relocate to Malaysia. They are mostly based in England. So you will end up with Lotus F1 cars that remind you of the Proton 'success story'..... sigh. They should have the factory in England, staffed mainly by the best English motorsports engineers and technicians and put some Malaysian there for apprenticeships. Even Toyota and Honda, with their far more superior automotive achievements, do not locate their F1 factories in Japan. And looks like Williams will lose their AirAsia sponsorship and BMW Sauber (under new ownership) will lose their Petronas petrodollars. Don't be so worried about the so called "Sepang F1 factory". Knowing Msia, they always like to promise this and that without thinking first. Then after awhile, they will probably realise it is far better and more convenient to just leave it in England. Guest EverestLeasing Neutral Newbie September 18, 2009 Share September 18, 2009 Agree with you, improve with each model they build. But isn't that true of all almost all other car makes as well? With the admission if Proton, the reputation of F1 takes another beating. ↡ Advertisement
