Revealed: The ghost fleet of the recession

By Simon Parry

The biggest and most secretive gathering of ships in maritime history lies at anchor east of Singapore. Never before photographed, it is bigger than the U.S. and British navies combined but has no crew, no cargo and no destination - and is why your Christmas stocking may be on the light side this year

Some of shipmangement companies that I work with already their ships are parked in Brunei & Thailand. Some of them car carriers. And already parked there since the beginning of the year until now. Many ppl still dunno how bad it actually is and in future months to come.

Recession in Singapore? Just heard the evening news from Channel 8, there was a record sales of the IT show compared 9 years ago. Not sure I heard wrongly or really in recession...Companies just take the opportunity to cut cost, freeze pay, sack workers...

Recession is only for the middle income and poor. The rich don't feel anything, in fact it is a great singapore sale to them, can buy more luxury items and condos.

Historically, the downturn in shipping is always far longer than upturn. With so much over-capacity, what do you think then? With so much $$$ downed in speculation by buying ships during the upturn, more will go bust. Now is the time for cash rich to pick these mega ships for a song.

an easy way to see whether our economy is improving or not is to see our harbor cargo cranes at shipyards...

u will see alot of them all idle... their long necks are up.... looking like a giraffe. no biz at all....

Cranes are still idling, shipyards business is still bad. US have no solid proof of economy back in track. Stocks and property prices rise like mad, people rushing to buy car, go holiday, spend lots in Comex. Our job market is not that good yet. It puzzled me.

Some earn a lot from stocks these few months, that's the only thing I can think of, but not all buy stocks.
