JumpySpeedFiend 2nd Gear September 12, 2009 Share September 12, 2009 Not sure if this discussion is allow but I really find this up and coming news portal very interesting. I really have my doubt over this SingaNews when it is pretty obvious that the Thio family might be behind it. Any views? ↡ Advertisement

Alechi 2nd Gear September 12, 2009 Share September 12, 2009 If we take a longterm view, in a democracy, as long as the government allows as many of these alternatives media to grow and thrive , the positive impact is a gd check and balance. There is no need to get excited about which faith such groups are linked to. Look at other mature democratic countries and do a search of their domestic media ..... the numbers are astonishing and the diversification is extreme. Silver_blade Turbocharged September 12, 2009 Share September 12, 2009 I have my reservation and feel only time will tell if it will remain secular. But more importantly will the readers believe that it is even if they really manage to keep it so? Such portal may be a good alternative for those who want a news portal which is more 'conservative' in it's view especially in area such as family, sexual, gambling, drug, entertainment, etc... Agree...I feel if democracy is what the people want, they will have to accept the freedom of views. They can choose to read if they like it and walk away if they don't. These interest groups, etc... will either strive or have natural death...accordingly to how well the public receive their views, etc.
Playtime Twincharged September 12, 2009 Share September 12, 2009 we are talking about people who belive every one else not of their fundie mentality should go to hell. that SARs was a punishment for Singapore not following "god's' ways. that their prayers help avert the tsunami from singapore. with such 'impeccable' minds behind, the purpose of their "mission" alone is enough to turn me off permanently, never mind some of their agenda will inevitably conincide with general society, and as a PR ploy, they will definitely try to potray themselves as regular joes to con the unwary. it will be like saying just because Hitler loved his mistress, that Hitler is a loving man? its still dealing with the devil. Silver_blade Turbocharged September 12, 2009 Share September 12, 2009 we are talking about people who belive every one else not of their fundie mentality should go to hell.... Isn't most religion similar...either you are in or you are out....eg. can't attain Nirvana if you don't follow the true way, cannot receive burned offerings and live a good live after death if you are not Taoist, etc....? The rest on SArs, tsunami, etc....are what some more 'extreme' Christian's view...which is a minority.
Nolicense Turbocharged September 12, 2009 Share September 12, 2009 go around and ask.. its not a minority view, most would tell you this is what they believe to be true. don't ask directly or they won't admit it. just let them share with you. they will try to convert you and slowly then they will tell you this view. otherwise they won't openly admit it. The rest on SArs, tsunami, etc....are what some more 'extreme' Christian's view...which is a minority. it is also undeniable that in singapore, most other religions do not seek to impose their doctrine on others, shoot off a hate speech in parliament, grab power at a secular NGO etc.... the other religions understand they have no right to do so. the fundies see it as their god given mandate, truely scary. and that "minority" you refer to have already proven they have the capacity to do what they want, they are a clear and present danger to society really on par with Mas Selamat... as the saying goes, the pen is mightier than the sword. Mas Selamat was just trying for a bomb - if any -, the fundie "minority" is gunning to remake singapore society itself.
Sabian Turbocharged September 12, 2009 Share September 12, 2009 More thio-gate style of engagement??? And why the need to be evasive when the press asks if you are of a particular faith? Why always must be this kind of "minority faith" that try to grab as much limelight as possible? ↡ Advertisement
