I am thinking of DIY-ing a playhouse for my 5 cats. Something along this idea (see pic) but indoors.

But first I need to buy an extendable metal pole which can stretch from floor to ceiling (~ 2.4m). Saw something in the Ikea catalogue which is for those exposed cupboards but it is kind of pricey at $180. I still need to buy boards so that costs something as well.

Do you know of any place I can buy such poles at perhaps a cheaper rate? TIA.

Even if you can find the pole, how do you intend to secure the board on it? From the pix, it looks like there are steps-support wielded to the pole.

Those pole will not be cheap...usually around $150-$300 for the aluminum ones.

i've been using such poles in my house as part of my interior design since 10 yrs ago so am familiar with it

unfortunately i have no cheap recommendations.

The brand is ALU. Designed and made in Italy.

the agent in singapore is Shape the Forms.

sales manager is Mich Lee

just google it and you will be able to find contacts , i'm too lazy to do it for you.

i swear i thought someone was into pole dancing.

Definitely not me into pole dancing. Too xiong a routine already. Wait the pole snap. [crazy]

But I do know the male pole dancing fad is already in Singapore. CNA did a feature on it a couple of weeks ago.

I dunno how heavy your cats are, but maybe u can try those poles for shower curtains? would they be tall enough?

Curtain poles will be too short plus probably not strong enough. Though my cats are approx 5kg each (heaviest is 6+kg), they do exert quite a lot of force when they launch themselves into the air. When they lay on my chest for a snooze, sometimes they may want to jump somewhere else halfway through. I can feel the tremendous force they exert on my stomach when they do that.

Actually I was considering this kind of extendable pole which is specially designed to touch the floor and ceiling then screwed tight so that it would bulge/collapse. It's something like this.

I know what you are referring to. Modular storage concept. You can fit it however you like to suit your room.

I was also thinking along those lines but I know they are quite expensive given that most are imported from Europe. I have heard of ALU before. I believe you use them for cupboard/storage purposes?

Thanks for the tip. Found the contact. Seems like Michelle Phang is still working there, or is she the boss?

Your cats must be real pampered by you! Perhaps you can consider an alternative instead, which is something I'm also toying with. It should be way cheaper to build with just simple shelves. See it here:

I do pamper them quite a bit. Just got them another cat tree just last month. Cost me $200 from the Pet Lovers Centre. But it is well worth the money. They play/nap/rest on it almost every day.

I have a spare room where their litter boxes are. In there, there are already some installed shelvings like those in your link for them to jump around. Thinking of adding some more vertical play ground for them after browsing through this site.

Actually when we renovated our home, we designed it around their life style so that they will have lookout points, space to run long distances, height of funiture is not too high (to accomodate the older one), places to nap/sleep etc. Our designer said we are siao ones. First time she had this type of client.
