CEL wont fail inspection

since your car now already approaching end of lifespan , they will be more concerned abt roadworthiness in terms of wheel alighnment , power output, emissions, brakes

if everything still maintains at the last time i tested your car, very slim chance of passing a few of those

Yeah, AD should have done a thorough job of retrieving the CEL codes to look into the cause.. else if the cause is not of concern, the codes can be erased and CEL should go.

But still it would be best to look into the root cause.

Good luck.

Hi 'Ruggles', I do not know if this is the 1st time that you send your vehicle for inspection? The following are some of the inspection critiria:

1) Headlights,

2) Intensity of solar tinted films;

3) Exhaust CO2 test and sound decibals,

4) Any indicator light that turns on for a specific purpose around the meters infront of the steering wheel;

5) Exhaust system;

6) Suspensions;

If any of the above fails, it has to be repaired or replaced and further re-inspection would be carried out. This also applies to old vehicles as they must be in good roadworthy condition.

It is the inspection centre personnels to ensure that all items as listed in the inspections are thoroughly checks before issuing the clearance certificate.

As in your case where the CEL is perm lighted up and your mechanic is unable to detect the root source, I would suggest that you bring your vehicle to your vehicle's authorised workshop for a complete diagnosis and eradicate the problem.

If you send your vehicle for inspection with the light still on, it will not be passed and you will have to incur at least 2 inspections cost.

I would rather that you spent the money to have the problem resolved before sending your vehicle for inspection.

headlights have a high chance of failing... but that is not paramount to the overall pass or fail.

T/S: have you tried to reset the ECU so that the CEL goes off?

Any idea on what's the purpose of having a car inspection?

To start a company that is profitable by guarantee and house all the elites in them... and lastly get listed on the stock exchange for more good years. [idea]

Agreed, one of the ways is to disconnect the -ve cable to the battery, step on the brake to 'bleed' the capacitor..

I would also have left it, say around 2 hours, before connecting the battery.

Note: The radio settings, etc, would be gone.

I personally will spend a bit of money to troubleshoot and eradicate the root source of the problem than to try and disconnect the above.

End of the day is do we want to drive a safe car. If the engine light is left on all the time, what will happen "touch-wood" if something will to go wrong with the engine.

The purpose of motor manufacturers providing different symbols with lights so as to enable the driver to ascertain what is at fault. It's just like the handbrake and car doors for example. If one do not release the handbrake fully and doors not closed tightly, the symbol lights will be on.

Hi,

I am driving a 2008 Subaru 1.5R and also encountering this same failure (engine warning light on). Initial diagnostic from the AD shows that the front exhaust pipe (catalytic converter) has failed. As we are having warranty dispute and the high cost of repair quoted, i decided to seek repair on my own.

Would appreciate any bros here that can recommend good workshops that will be able to take this job at a reasonable charge? Thankx in advance...

Regards,

Agree,headlight is something that they always spot on,example tinting of it and aftermarket HID in it,so i will never do that but then i wonder if i open the casing and install the optic fibre angel eye in it,is tat okie? cause that looks really fierce and beautiful,dunno can pass or not leh?
