Road rage man gets jail

By Elena Chong

A SELF-EMPLOYED man was sentenced to four months' jail on Tuesday for assaulting a driver with a bat.

Lui Eng Teck, 44, pleaded guilty to using a bat to hit Mr Eng Eng Leng, 45, on his left arm at a road shoulder of Tampines Expressway (TPE) on May 13 last year.

A district court heard that Mr Eng was driving a lorry at a slip road of TPE when he gave way to a SBS Transit bus due to the merging lane.

Suddenly, Lui's car appeared on the left of the victim's lorry and cut in between the victim and the SBS bus, forcing the victim to brake hard to avoid a collision.

The victim sounded his horn to alert Lui of his reckless driving.

Lui then slowed his vehicle down, forcing the victim to do the same.

Mr Eng then signalled to Lui to pull over the road shoulder of the expressway.

Both men got down from their vehicles. While walking towards each other, Lui turned back and pulled out a bat which he used to hit the victim twice on the left arm.

When the victim said he was going to call the police, Lui drove off.

Lui, who had his sentence deferred till Sept 29 to settle his working arrangements, had a similar conviction 10 years ago. He had also been convicted of reckless and dangerous driving.

He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 for voluntarily causing hurt.

The Hooter really deserves it....one lesser scum on Singapore's roads...but only for 4 stupid months. I am sure he will be back to hoot some other driver again. If he didn't learn his lesson 10 years back, what difference does it make now?!

Neutral Newbie

Why the sentance so light? The judge is too kind. This type of ppl wont learn til they really pay for it. The unrepentant attitude already proves that he feels that he owns & uses the road solely even after the previous conviction. Putting a baseball bat in his car already shows dat he is inclined to violence. At 40s, I dun tink he is part of a baseball team. Yankees or Raiders etc. 4 mths......he will be causing trouble in no time.

My anti theft device is the shape of a baseball bat.

I've always thought that if attacked in Malaysia I'd use it.

But once you get what in effect is a deadly weapon in your hand you'd better be sure you only use it in an unarguably self defence situation.

If im not mistaken, the anti theft device is allowed in the car, but real baseball bats are not... if you get spot checked with a bat i think you need the full sports gear to make it convincing :X hehehe

This guy must be a lowly commoner.

Do u guys recall the Editor who killed someone when she was busy talking or SMSing behind the wheels? Not even 1 day's jail.

There u go............. justice? Far from it.

Nevermind, if carrying a baseball bat is not allowed, we'll carry sugarcane instead....cheap and good. Can carry one in each hand to fend of robbers and even if we are stopped at a road block, can't find fault with us. I like sugarcane add lemon [bounce1] why? cannot ah?! [shocked]
