Hi 'WakaWaka', can you elaborate more in detail of the loud "tweaking" sound that you are encountering. 1) How is sound like? 2) From which part of the engine, is it only when you start the engine in the morning or every time you starts the engine when it is cold. 3) Is your car manual or CVT? 4) Did you ever open up the bonnet to trace the location where the sound is coming from? WakaWaka Neutral Newbie August 31, 2009 Author Share August 31, 2009 timing belt... after awhile should go away after engine heats up....very common issue... as long not 80,000 km yet, its ok.. Open the bonnet to check before... sounds like its coming from the fan belt area... Btw, should we change timing belt at 50k or 80k? Car is due for 50k servicing soon... any recommendation on what to do for 50k? Quit going back to C&C after 20k... So far for 30k, change engine oil and tire rotation 40k, brake pad, engine oil, tire rotation... btw, its a manual transmission car, so far very reliable except the mentioned sound, and the aircon vent on the passeger side lets out a stale smell occasionally (Any idea what is the problem?) Thanks in advance for the advices.

Octopus 3rd Gear August 31, 2009 Share August 31, 2009 Apply some silicon oil to your auxiliary belts. Can try those silicon spray available at supermarkets or DIY shops, just stray onto the belts when engine running. Apply it regulary (every month) and your auxiliary belts can last more than 100k. Remember it must be silicon oil, NOT WD40.

Especially in the morning when the engine is very cold... usually last for about 10 minutes when the car has warmed up... car is about 3 year old... I experience the same problem for my previous ride, '98 version GLX... It happened to my ride and it is only 2 year plus. My mechanic spotted this during the last servicing and he managed to rectify this in tightening one of the belts which I cannot remember. After that, no more such sound. Steo Neutral Newbie April 10, 2010 Share April 10, 2010 hi all, i am new to this forum,..... i do encounter this tweaking sound in the morning when it is cold...aft engine is warmed up for 10mins, the sound is gone...seems like slippage due to moisture /wear and tear on the belt.. my 'new' ride is a 2nd-hand 3 yr old lancer glx... Just got a used 3 yr old lancer glx cs3 (auto) car abt a mth ago- registered mid-March 2007...very gd condition....the mileage is approx. 17.8k (very low mileage). So far so gd... Also checked from service record for this car that 1st owner has send to C &C for regular servicing for past 3 yr....the last svc at C & C is 15k mileage.. On safe side, i send in my car a wk ago to car motor workshop at amk autopoint for svc (recommended by a close friend)...during svc, there is no much issue except that the spark plug has not been changed by C & C and it original from factory (Japan)... i am quite surprised that C &C does not change spark plug even though the previous owner paid for it (from svc records).. i have also recommended my colleague, who has a 5yr old car lancer glx cs3 - mileage 45k and regular serviced at C &C, to same workshop @amk and he has his car serviced on fri 9 Apr/ To his astonishment the spark plug was not changed at all after 5 servicing done at C &C as the spark plug is also factory fitted in Japan... He was very angry as he mentioned that he paid quite alot for the servicings done at C &C... My purpose for writing as i think C & C may fail to manage their service staff well...This may not be the fault of C &C as car svc is normally carried out by their svc personnel but this will greatly affect their reputation and at the same time i heard that their svc is quite costly. Initially i am contemplating to sign for extended service warranty with C & C but after what happened, i decided to hold back as i think it is not honest in its business dealing... Hope this will serve as a feedback to all...thx u for reading...

Not sure whether they will continue to honour the warranty and whether previous owner had kept the warranty by going back to C&C. Our car's technology has been around for some time, if not, for years. So most workshops would be able to resolve any arising issues. It is not some kind of rocket science that you need to engage specific mechanics or go back to distributor to get them to solve any arising issues. Beehive3783 Turbocharged April 12, 2010 Share April 12, 2010 I believe most of the workshops in JB can fix 4G18s.. The Waja was using it till Proton introduced the Campro engine. And the Wira uses Mitsubishi engines as well. The 4G18 is dinosaur technology, but it's quite reliable. Heck, with its cast iron block, can even do mild forced induction
