Cornering Hard on a Weber

Hi Starlets,

I'm on a Weber.

When I'm cornering hard LEFT, with the clutch engaged, the engine will have a very noticeable stutter and jerk, making the subsequent acceleration less responsive. With the clutch disengaged (free wheeling), the engine dies off, which is pretty dangerous cos I lose the power steering. Seems as though the carb is starved of petrol in the float when cornering left.

This does not apply if I'm cornering right. Do any of you guys on Webers experience this scenario? Is it due to the orientation of the carb in my car?

Your reply is greatly appreciated =)

Hi.. the pic may not show it clearly, but the orientation of the weber is such that it is " | " instead of " -- " . . .

Thanks!

edit: added an inverted color foto for better visibility

ok, with this pix, we eliminate the first problem. coz if you put the float transversely, it will definitely affect when you are cornering one way. it's a common problem with the Fiats that run Weber DCNF. but since your carb is mounted longitudinally this isn't the problem.

which brings us to the next possibility that your float level is incorrect. this works the same way as your toilet bowl cistern where the fuel will stop flowing into the chamber when you have enough reserve petrol there.

you can adjust the float level to prevent the carb from over flowing. have this checked. sounds like you are having a overly rich problem, so when you corner, the petrol "overflows" into the emulsion tube and causes your car to stutter and even die off. meaning your float level is too high. set it a bit lower.

at the same time check that the float is not rusted. coz if it's rusted, petrol will go into the float and make it useless.
