never try botak jones before, but i can say that aston's black pepper chicken is [thumbsup] . must ask for more black pepper sauce, cos sometimes they give very little. the black pepper sauce is damn shiok! my favourite sides are the onion rings and mashed potato, both also very yummy! and is only $6.50, dont know know got increase price anot. [lipsrsealed] btw i'm refering to the katong aston branch, never tried the other branches yet.

May I know why nobody mention about Kenny Roger? Any idea how is it fair if compare with Astons?

used to patronise Kenny Rogers cos the price on display was nett price, now they add in 10% svc charge, which I feel not value for $ anymore.

the chicken is kindly dry and tastless and end up have to use a lot of ketchup. some of the sides were nice though.

so far only tried steak at Astons.

not quite used to western style of chicken preparation, still prefer traditional hainanese chicken rice anytime.

One thing good about Kenny Rogers is the speed at which they serve the food. Super fast! I guess it's because most ppl order their chickens so they pre-cook lots of that. The last time i went, it was full house but they still managed to serve the food for my gang of 12 in less than 5 mins. [thumbsup]

So if you're in a hurry that's one place you can go to.

swenson - not a fan. last time i went which was at least 5 years ago, nothing spectacular or memorable

cafe cartel - went twice. both time yucky food. tasteless food. the animals got killed for nothing.

manhattan fish mkt - total waste of money dining there. spent $50+ for 2 pax for dinner. Yucks. [thumbsdown] not going back again

bj - tried once; the one at the youth park near cineleisure. nothing spectacular or memorable at all. a colleague kept saying the chilli (?) fries are good. But it does not taste right.

kenny rogers - still go there once in a while as i am a chicken fan and their food is above average. Like their sides. prefer their marina branch before the whole place was renovated. nice atmosphere. the new outlet does not have that kind of mood.

tony romas - ate there once only in 1994. my taste buds then not as ngiow but it was only passable then also.

the ribs place at chjimes - ate there once in mid 90s. slighly better than tony romas but it did not tempt nme back a second time.

tcc - actually i find tcc now not bad (consistently above average). quite like their pasta and this starter called mozzie tofu (or something like that). their coffee also quite good, esp the azuki coffee. the jap red beans have texture and it's not too sweet, unlike star bucks frappi which is way too sweet and there is no way the staff can reduce the sugar. star bucks only good for latte.

Quite a few mentioned cafe cartel food not good. I not trying to change your POV but I would like to urge you to go try their St Louis Prok ribs at $13.80. It is cheap at that price and come with free flow of nice bread. Then we can talk apple to apple as for me, this dish forms my opinion of the place. I believe other dishes on the menu might not be good, But it will be terrible for me to try those food to concur with you. The logic thing is you try the ribs then see whether you agree with me. Sorry for the hard sell. [laugh]
