Hello trippers!

Anyone with experience using a motorhome/campervan in Victoria, Australia.

I'm planning for 8 days. Places to cover: Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island and Dandenong Ranges.

Inputs needed. Never tried a motorhome.

Neutral Newbie

Seen the "Euro Deluxe 6" from Apollo Campervan before, very nice & comfy with shower toilet etc. But still puzzled on how to put water in, or clear sewage.

Check out their relocation deals if you're doing a Melbourne - somewhere else. Might find a cheap deal.

interesting.. using this as a substitute for accomodation? i'm most worried abt the toilet and shower. don't intend to try this cos i want to enjoy the drive, though i reckon overall u'll still save by not having to stay at motels

wow, always wanted to do this. did drive from brisbane to adelaide many years ago, very siong [sweatdrop]

anyway, there are few aust website that do renting of camper vans. If u go their peak season (at end of year, summer) i think it is about AUS150-200 per day. But that is many years ago.

Saw the movie title "RV". As for the sewage part, this Robbin William has to clear the s--t himself. Something I would not do myself.

I did wonder whether Singapore allows the use of a Motorhome? Can drive in to JB for petrol, refuse disposal, replenish water supply and etc. Then, things like dirty laundry, internet and Starhub TV access and etc may be an issue too. Previously, I did consider living in a boat with living space too.

They don't even allow you to drive on the roads, not even if you are ang moh from overseas on round thr world trip. It has to be towed in Singapore roads.

Used to handle this type of cargo from roro ships. Many were quite surprised that they can't drive and keep on arguing, lamblasting our garment. Ask them to read the rules and regulations in LTA website. [scholar]

Thanks. No wonder, never catch one on the road here before. Wonder what is the rationale, our land probably to precious. So it seems, living on a boat is the only other option in SG.

Motorhome needs a campsite.

Campsites can be rented like hotel space but cheaper. Has powered and unpowered. Powered of course cost more.

I went through some reviews. Motorhome is like living on a boat. All the stuff are stowed a way very neatly and MUST be secured very well before you get underway or all the eating utensils and stuff start falling around.

There are two types. Those that are powered like minibus/van. Those that need to be towed.

Towed have more space but your car must be damn powerful to do it well. Think 4WD diesel truck should be better. I cannot imagine making a right turn on a traffic junction towing this thing with a puny 1.6L car. [dizzy]

Decided to ditch this idea. Costs too much to rent it. The Aussies save money by owning one and it is usually the towed version. The powered version is for the tourists.

Will be putting up in motels. Aussie friend says no need to book motel in advance. Got so many all over. Just drive up to one. Ask for room. Ask to view room. Happy with room? Rent the room. Usually 80-100 for double but family pay more. Usually 10-15/extra person. Meaning of the room is 100 for double (for 2 adults) and this includes family room with 1Q and 2S beds, you got 2 kids with you and extra kids cost 10, this means the room is 120pn.

Then also I would avoid the BIG4 holiday parks. Got cabin but must bring own linen! I don't want to travel down to VIC bringing my own bed linen.
