Rickster 5th Gear August 24, 2009 Share August 24, 2009 But don't forget that for most asian cars, the model brought in by local agents are strip down version, with less airbag, no esp etc... If this car are send for Euro Ncap test, it will get a lower rating. For Volvo, I believe the local agents are bringing in the full safety spec version. Crash test don't take into consideration on ESP or any passive features like ABS. They focus on the point of impact. Thus, only the car's body structure & other active safety features like airbags & safety belts/collapsible steering column r tested etc. For Volvo S60, most of the comparable asian makes (in terms of size / engine capacity) does not come striped down in safety features. ↡ Advertisement
Rickster 5th Gear August 24, 2009 Share August 24, 2009 The test was unfair. The Volvo had its engine removed. Therefore the impact just goes direct from bumper to windscreen without anything to absorb impacts in between. No the engine is not removed. Where in the video did it say the engine is removed? Lalaisgongon Clutched August 24, 2009 Share August 24, 2009 S60 is the oldest volvo model currently on sale, it might not had the latest safety technology that others volvo have. But it should still be safer than most non-conti car. It will be replaced soon.. I agree!, for a car release in 2000,10 years on, still can survive such crash. compare it with toyota Camry, around 1 generation back. i think the car so light, it flip up and hit the tree, the left side car. or even the current one, only front airbag, if toyota crash, sure totaled furthermore, most volvo's car safety features comes as standard. Locknload 5th Gear August 24, 2009 Share August 24, 2009 was wondering if those volvos that are used as a hearse be just as strong, albeit modded?

Actually, comparing volvos to other contis, they r not much different from the rest (Thanks to the power of marketing [thumbsup] ) Go to: http://www.euroncap.com They will evaluate all the safety features during impact including the firing of airbag timing, 2-stage airbag, how many seatbelt pretensioners etc. Edited August 26, 2009 by Rickster
Sony 1st Gear August 26, 2009 Share August 26, 2009 Which is exactly what I told a grp of ppl recently in a trauma lecture.... 'if you have choice to bang lamppost/traffic light/tree, die die, bang trafficlight/lamppost and pay $10k to gahmen cos if u bang tree, no chance to even pay the $10000.. At least bang lamppost ic no need return, but if tree, chances are ic return nia give them another choice of not putting themselves in the spot for having to make a decision between a tree vs lamp post/traffic light is better... Mezzanine Neutral Newbie August 26, 2009 Share August 26, 2009 False sense of security vs millions of years of evolution. Tree wins flimsy sheet metal all the time. I think we should start making our cars out of trees then. like flintstones. can use leg to move.. save on petrol also.

Alechi 2nd Gear August 27, 2009 Author Share August 27, 2009 i recall a few similar crashes in the past 1 -2 yrs, and they were "asian-made" cars ... most of the drivers / passengers died in the crashes, whereas the few crashes involving conti cars, drivers and passengers mostly alive. bros out there recall too? Auron 2nd Gear August 27, 2009 Share August 27, 2009 Actually, I think it would be better off that he died. if he is speeding (most probably he is), i would agree with you...
SupperTime Clutched August 27, 2009 Share August 27, 2009 Just a bit off topic, today i read in newspaper that a 23 year old hit the curb in sembawang and also flipped his car. Admits was not speeding, but given the swirl of the road it is doubtful ? ↡ Advertisement
