Picanto 3rd Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 the creato and forte are much cheaper than vios and altis. moreover the equipment spec list is very impressive compared to the toyotas. why do people still buy vios/altis when the korean brands are offering something better? i would like to see avante and forte overtake the toyotas in terms of sales. ↡ Advertisement

Picanto 3rd Gear August 20, 2009 Author Share August 20, 2009 simple - we have much more followers than leaders. its sad to see the koreans lack behind those thai cars. if the koreans offer lousy cars, then i have nothing to say. but its obvious the forte and cerato are much better than the toyotas, yet they still lose in sales. Reliability is what ppl looking for. Maybe in another 5 years time, ppl will switch to Korean makes if Japan makes becomes too expensive to buy. Same as you leave all other makes and compare only Made in China cars with Korean cars. Ppl will choose Korean cars over China cars.
Neo 1st Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Probably because Toyota had already establish a very good reputation locally and Kia/Hyundai only came up with those very impressive design in recent years. I guess it will take time for consumers to adapt.

Plusnplus Neutral Newbie August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 even with the same price, between forte and altis, i still choose altis. altis interior more firm/ steady look forte interior just look like children cooking toy. altis body/ exterior suitable for 40s person (early old generation) forte body/ exterior look like new comer sport car, very fantastic design, race curve !!!!, more bold then evo look

Unfair 3rd Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Can you tell me no major faults will happen to the avante or forte 5-7 yrs down the road ? singaporeans go to toyota cause they are established in both after sales service and reliability. HengHeng88 Neutral Newbie August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Time will tell whether korean cars can be relied on. Currently , the previous batchs of koreans cars are still of inferior quality ... after 3 yrs many korean cars come out with engine problems , worsening FCs etc ... Of course , people need time to assure themselves that the current batch of korean cars are of better quality. Only time will tel if it is true .. or will it become .. good to look not good to eat.. From personal experience, Dad is the stock kind of person and goes only to AD for servicing. Last 3 cars in my family were Hyundai. Current Avante is 2 years old. No major problem as wear and tear things are changed by the AD during servicing b4 they actually fail. But you have to be prepared that servicing with AD is not cheap la... But then, which AD servicing is cheap? We could be lucky, but because of that, we never considered Hyundai to be of inferior reliability wise. Now that the build, drivibility, comfort is further improved by the newer models, with the increasing price gap due to weak Kor currency (few mths ago), its even more of a no brainer on whether to buy MIK or MIT. (IMHO) I myself would have bought an Avante if Dad wasn't driving 1.. Maybe you should visit an altis forum and avante forums... and see the problems that the owners face. In every such forum, bound to have ppl complaining of problems with their ride... and even if u tok abt a 100k conti, also will have ppl complain got problem 1.... lol So to a certain extent is like buy electronic item.. heng suay... I cannot say the same for Kia, but Kia's reputation seems pretty solid for the Rio which many ppl swear by its reliability.

Benarsenal Turbocharged August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Simple. It's called branding. It takes decades for a brand to build up a solid reputation. Toyota has been around for donkey years with reliable products, and so the image sticks. No doubt Kia and Hyundai has been taking great strides in their product, but it will take a very, very, very long time for them to come close to Toyota in terms of image. ↡ Advertisement
