Chevrolet Cruze had 5 star rating from Australia and China NCAP.

Look at the spec for the Australian market, we really kana short change, what to do? Our market so small.

Given the model designation JG, the Holden Cruze launched with the 1.8 litre Ecotec petrol and optional 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine. Either way, both engines are mated to the five-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed automatic (see above). Electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), seat belt pretensioners and six airbags are standard across the board.[22] Specification-wise, a price-leading CD opens up the range, finished off with a more upmarket CDX. Europe: 1.6 and 1.8 litre petrol and 2.0 litre diesel engines are currently offered in the European-specification Cruzes. Exports from the South Korean factory began on February 24, 2009.[33]

 

North America: North American versions of the Chevrolet Cruze are scheduled to enter production during 2010, replacing the Chevrolet Cobalt and identical Pontiac G5.[34] These will feature the turbocharged 1.4 litre gasoline direct injection engine.[20] A Pontiac version of the Cruze will not be offered, as the brand will be phased out by 2010.[35] These cars will be built on the production lines currently used to build the Cobalt and Pontiac G5 in Lordstown, Ohio.[36]

I tink is good to know that your hard disk, ram or motherboard might most prob be manufactured in s.korea. If not china or taiwan otherwise. Dun tell me everything working inside your PC is made in Japan, US or Europe..

 

I tink Japan is having a hard time fighting market with S.Korea now. Look at Samsung or LG gaining market share in electronics.. its amazing..

 

anyway.. I wont consider Chevrolet as American or S.Korean. Its a global car marketed globally as different brands to suite different market. GM could have sold off Chevrolet but it kept it as its core brand.. must be a reason for it.

 

Its a era where globalisation is dominant. Even Honda has globalize, Accords from Thailand or Japan, Civic TypeR from UK or Japan. Honda City and Toyota Altis/Vios manufactured in Thailand. Proton bought over Lotus. Toyota has LEXUS(Luxury EXport to US). Ssangyong is powered by Mercedes. The Daihatsu Siron is a Perodua Myvi vice-versa. Ford(American) has cars made in Germany, Spain, Belgium, and some that was from Japan.

the reason why japanese stuff is ex because you're paying for the yen...compared to the won is so much different in terms of exchange rates...

 

hyundai has overtaken Toyota in my opinion in terms of quality and drive...refinement though...still have some way to go...case in point Sonata VS Camry, Altis (AXIO) VS Avante...

Cruz should be priced @ $48K for 1.6M and $51k for 1.6A.

HP printer is designed and manufactured in China, does that mean that HP printer is a China printer?

 

who knows, maybe some of the designers from BMW are Korean or Japanese, but that does not make BMW a Jap or Korean car.

 

 

 

no, i did not meant that the BMW designers cannot be korean, chinese or even indians (for their firmware), they could very well be, but they are design in germany in a team culture that has a long history and culture and know-how on high quality of cars they wan to produce. and they built-in this quality into the design.

 

i will be wary if they car is design by a team of thai bmw thai engineers in thailand as they do not have the culture or mindset nor history of car making.

Maybe to you it doesn't.

But to a whole lot of people, it does matter ... by a lot.

 

Would I buy a Merc that's not made in Germany? No.

Or a Bang & Olufsen TV not made in Denmark? No.

Or a Miele washing machine that's not made in Germany? No.

Or a bulthaup kitchen that's not from Germany? No.

Or an LV bag that's not made in France? No.

Or a Leica camera that's not made in Germany? No.

 

Now some of these brand names do have factories elsewhere ..... but I am very selective when it comes to my "decision to own", and will always be based on the country of manufacture, regardless of brand ..... as after all, its my money and I decide what I want to and what I do not wish to buy.

 

Korean cars unfortunately, fall into the latter group.

 

No forum debate, sales talk or plain harping on the fact that 'the Koreans have arrived' will convince me to buy a Samsung or LG product .... or for that matter cars too. Like I say again, to each his own money and decision.

 

Strange.....how do you survive then because today a lot of stuff is made in China. HP printers for example are made in China now.

 

Apple Iphone, an American brand is also made in China.

 

Ok la..maybe you elite class...different. Your Mcdonald burger probably air-flown direct from US while mine is delivered by some local rider through the local home delivery service.

Test drive both Cruze and Forte last few days, both 1.6A at around S$55k. Love the looks of Forte with body kits and the fast acceleration. Features that comes with Forte (that I think is important for a car) that Cruze is missing are the traction control, auto front head light and non-glare rear mirror. My complains to this car is the loud engine noise (hollow and feel non-purposeful), light steering and the seat adjustment could not be lowered to my liking (I am a tall guy).

 

Cruze on the other hand, feels slow at pickup and lack many features that the Forte has. What impress me is the smoothness of the drive (probably due to the 6AT) - compararble to the Toyota Allion 1.5 with CVT. Very quite at cruise and very conti feel. Engine note when pressing the pedal hard is load but not irritating.

 

My heart goes to Cruze.....

Same taste brother.........I like the feel of Cruze too.

 

Somehow car sold in Singapore always seems to be low on spec.

Forte from C&C is a rare one that give better spec.

but profit margin still high....

IMHO, everybody is trying hard to give the consumer more value, even conti brands... Only the the stuck up top 2 jap ADs still continue to thrive on consumer perception...

I would like to check with you about the the engine from Cruze is the same as the Astra G for the 1.6A? What are the features that can be added into the 1.6A that the 1.8A has (like cruise control, traction control, auto head lights etc...)
