RadX Moderator August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 I tink the new system would be similar to those car co-op thing. The car would be fitted with a GSM +GPS device. Whenever the owner wana use his OPC car, he just SMS to a specific number and the ignition is automatically unlocked. When the car is inside a building/underground, it still can be tracked by the GSM device. This can be implemented to normal plate cars too. It will be pay as u use. But frankly, I think such system will destroy one's freedom in SG. Whenever u go, bug bro will be watching. On the other end, no need to afraid to lost of vehicle. I think it is sth that they have to live with...afterall, the cheaters, oops forgetful fellas may be abusing the system ↡ Advertisement
Sgnick 1st Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Cheat proof system + Sat full day = Normal platers not happy, because OPCs get more road time thus infringing on THEIR roads Cheat proof system only = Normal platers a bit happy, but miss the good old days when they can kaopeh about cheaters in MCF Cheat proof system + even more OPC restrictions = Normal platers overjoyed and vote for *** in the next GE

Bystander50 5th Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 This is e part I am interested in knowing and how r they going to implement on e existing e 45k which r on e rd ardi, recall exercise? Did you remember how they managed to install IUs in all existing cars before the start of ERP more than 10 years ago? Assuming 500000 cars then, what's 45000 to them? Unless after 10 years, their efficiency had gone down. When there's money to be sucked, there's definitely a way.
Jacf Neutral Newbie August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 like PM Lee said 'Live and Let Live'! no need to begrudge watever changes that is gonna be made! normal cars or opc cars, any cars that generate revenues for the gov is a good car!!! a foolproof system to track opc car usage is welcome though gov might lose more revenue this way!! play cat and mouse games do earn more for gov though! Gnoikj Neutral Newbie August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Hmm...how would OPC car owners feel with a cheat proof system? No more gripes right? Won't be wronglly accused of being cheaters, marginalised etc...so if I were a OPC owner, it would be a welcome thing.

It's doesnt matter to me cos 1) i dont cheat 2) i am fine with current coupon system anyway 3) i dont have to waste time and money to go fix something extra in my car If the govt do want OPC to fix something, I suggest 1) It's free 2) The workshops that fix these devices be opened during the non-peak hours including weekends/PH

Can fully understand thier situation now. I did cheat a tiny little winy bit of the timing often too. Difficult not to rah. haha. Just like my work place slip road.......always illegal parking on double yellow line until full house to pick up ppl. White ant come.....all run. Trying to take advantage of the situation. Espire 1st Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Seriously this is the problem with the people over here. There is 2 side to a coin. Yes I do agree some normal plate people over here do marginalised the OPC owners. However, OPC owners after enjoying the 17K rebate which means acknowleding the conditions tied to it... after some time... then they started going.. WE WANT MORE!!! WE WANT MORE!!! This reminds me of those LOGAN FREE LOADERS and LYCHEE FREE LOADERS I had seen at the Giant Supermarket everytime... until the staff had to come and stopped them... then they still yaya say... TESTING MAH !!!!
Bugts Neutral Newbie August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 During peak hours, I rarely see OPC cars on the road. So I more or less conclude the jam is not caused by OPC cars anyway. I am all for removing the ugly OPC cars so that it makes the owners feel less "maginalised" if there's such a thing. A more high tech solution is better, they could install GPS Transponders in cars which tracks the usage. And when cars are used during restricted hours, the charges could be billed directly to the owners. No need for ugly red plates and cumbersome coupon tearing. Any by improving the rebate value to entice current normal car plate owners to convert to OPC plate, maybe the car population could be reduced somewhat. That said, being a normal plate car owner, I doubt I would convert anyway. well said! just like racist lor.. whenever normal plate see red plate, they tends to have stupid thinking or disgusted by them.. Funny..
