Rickster 5th Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 According to the report in below, looks like the OPC scheme revamp is going to have many changes (eg. No more ugly red plates ) and not just focusing on the saturday issue. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Motorworld...818-161813.html ↡ Advertisement
Alechi 2nd Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 u wish ah ... basically .. it says that the way enforcement is done got to be more foolproof and robust before can consider removing red plate. blame it on all those cheapskates who leave 30 mins to 1 hr early ... return 30 mins to 1 hr late ... short distance refuse to pluck coupon idiots who spoilt market !! *not vested

Ahyoo2002 2nd Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 (edited) There are about 45,000 OPCs on the roads today, and close to 1,000 owners a year are booked for violating the restricted usage rules. It would not be unfair to assume that a sizeable number of rule violators are not caught. Is 1000 out of 45000 a lot? Is 1000 out of 45000 a lot? 1000 X $10000 fine = $10,000,000 Good revenue leh, if i were LTA, I won't bother make it cheat proof, I'll rather hire more people to catch and fine these buggers and make even more $. Sgnick 1st Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Extract from the article: "If more people switch or convert to OPCs, peak-hour congestion will be alleviated. Consequently, traffic will be smoother flowing, thus putting a cap on ERP charges and the need for more gantries. This will benefit motorists at large. Hence, no one should begrudge OPC owners for contributing less to taxes than the ordinary car owner." Yawn....idiotic normal platers who always kaopeh OPCs will never understand the above...... Plusnplus Neutral Newbie August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 wow.., so you all opinion. if want buy new opc car, better now (at least still have 17k rebate) or later ? i afraid later, only $10k rebate :(
Drive_carcar Clutched August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 During peak hours, I rarely see OPC cars on the road. So I more or less conclude the jam is not caused by OPC cars anyway. I am all for removing the ugly OPC cars so that it makes the owners feel less "maginalised" if there's such a thing. A more high tech solution is better, they could install GPS Transponders in cars which tracks the usage. And when cars are used during restricted hours, the charges could be billed directly to the owners. No need for ugly red plates and cumbersome coupon tearing. Any by improving the rebate value to entice current normal car plate owners to convert to OPC plate, maybe the car population could be reduced somewhat. That said, being a normal plate car owner, I doubt I would convert anyway.
Windchoco 1st Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 Foolproof high tech solution will make many normal plate owners happy I think, as cheating by OPC owners seem to be a major complain in these heated threads... on the other hand, Seems from the report, that pay-as-you use kind of thing + no more red colour plates + sat full day should make OPC owners happy as well.. Adrianli Hypersonic August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 I tink the new system would be similar to those car co-op thing. The car would be fitted with a GSM +GPS device. Whenever the owner wana use his OPC car, he just SMS to a specific number and the ignition is automatically unlocked. When the car is inside a building/underground, it still can be tracked by the GSM device. This can be implemented to normal plate cars too. It will be pay as u use. But frankly, I think such system will destroy one's freedom in SG. Whenever u go, bug bro will be watching. On the other end, no need to afraid to lost of vehicle.
