Yawnz 1st Gear August 10, 2009 Share August 10, 2009 (edited) Thinking about getting myself a 2nd hand picanto in the range of 12k-14k. I roughly did a calculation of a normal car and realised that I require like 1.2k-1.3k per month for the car, and i'm not willing/unable to afford so much. But i really like the convenience of a car, and i'm not too fussy of status either. So i was thinking about getting myself a 2nd hand picanto, especially for the weekends with family/gf. So i was wondering if any bros here can advise on the cost involved for a OPC car? My profile: 1) less than 1 year driving experience. 2) 23 years old 3) Undergraduate 4) minimal income, but have 42k in savings. (made a killing the stock markets) Edited August 10, 2009 by Yawnz ↡ Advertisement

Davetan86 Neutral Newbie August 10, 2009 Share August 10, 2009 why not consider a OPC 2nd hand Toyota Vios? As its engine is reliable and low fuel consumption.
Ithunk 1st Gear August 10, 2009 Share August 10, 2009 okay maybe u can invest more in the stock market then get a performance vehicle
Kangadrool Supersonic August 10, 2009 Share August 10, 2009 Maybe u should just try car sharing since income is minimal. BTW, the upkeep costs for OPC and Normal car isn't much difference. The diff is abt $190 (mainly the rebates and road tax). The car still need parking, maintenance, petrol, etc. If there is no restraint and discipline, u will end up worse off if tear too many OPC coupons. The temptation of convenience is there. Jrage 1st Gear August 12, 2009 Share August 12, 2009 (edited) Bought a 2-yr old normal plate picanto a year ago for $23k ( inclusive of insurance and all the whatnote) for parents to use. Paper value of the car is close to $20k... Paid in full ,so no interest incurred or penalty if I decide to scape. :) Anytime , my parents cant drive the car or decide to change for a better, can get back most of the money back from gvt. As for insurance, I only take up third party cos' if the car is really seriously damage will scrap right alway, wont be repairing. It will be cheaper for you since you are young a driver. :) As I paid in cash, yearly depeciation is only 2.5k ~ $200 mthly. Petrol consumption is pretty decent for the car ~ $250 mthly. ( for light use) Carpark + fines ~ $100 mthly. Servicing and repairs ~ $500 yrly.. .. So far no problem with the car, if there is a need of serious repair, will just scrap the car lor. :P Edited August 12, 2009 by Jrage
Windcloud03 Neutral Newbie August 12, 2009 Share August 12, 2009 I just sold my OPC Picanto (low mileage, good condition, did servicing only last month, change car battery and tyres). Decided to sell because I upgraded to a Avante for my kid. You can definitely consider my car if you are interested. PM me for more details if you like. Cheers! Homgrk Neutral Newbie August 12, 2009 Share August 12, 2009 Hi Yawnz, Full tank petrol not more than S$45. Mileage is 31,000 km. Cost for OPC is as follows; Annual Road Tax is S$50 Insurance you need to check with the insurance company should be abt S$1.5K for 1 year without NCD. During the day before 7pm, if you want to drive u need to buy S$20 OPC coupon sold in all Post Office.

Ladykillerz 4th Gear August 12, 2009 Share August 12, 2009 you might also want to consider other cars like Kia Rio, Hyundai Verna, etc. Those cars pricing aren't much different with Kia Picanto. On top of that, you get more space and also, higher paper value.. Best is to do a benchmarking -> http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/index.php Happy car shopping!~
Homgrk Neutral Newbie August 12, 2009 Share August 12, 2009 Hi Booboon, My OMV is S$7,501, not too sure abt COE should be S$17K right?
Little_prince Supersonic August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 yours is opc car... COE = $0 so effectively you're asking for 12.8k- 0.6*7501= 8.2k body value???
Sammy_koh Neutral Newbie August 13, 2009 Share August 13, 2009 pay cash la wat for loan since got 42k. just yr insurance would kill u. base on yr profile standby around 2 to 3k a year. buden bear in mind regardless if ur paying in full, u still have 2 standby around 300 at least. petrol, season parking. than guess u would be bringing yr gal out pretty often you would have 2 top up yr cashcard.
