Just beacuse other people around you are getting screwed in the ass doesn't mean you have to be too.

Its like staying in someone's house, we can't call the shots? If you unhappy, go to stay another country right or not. But if can't run away got to swallow the bitter pill. Not that i am on the side of the govt, but I too cannot run.

I think the closest answer is Norway.

Watch this

I have not been to Norway. Neither have i spoken to a Norway citizen so I can't comment.

But the world have a few thousand countries, if only Norway beats us, then we are No. 2 (quite high in ranking).

I disagree, if i can't rightfully claim singapore as my home, but someone's house, then i think its time to kick the care takers out.

Its not about immigrating or whether you have to means to immigrate. The principle is that as a citizen, the gahmen is accountable to me and The People must demand that the gahmen be held accountable. Without that, it becomes like what you said, living in other people's house.

Well there is no perfect govt and also no perfect person. The rules are made for the majority and can't satisfy everyone. So the only way is follow the rules but take advantage of them because certain rules only favour certain situation.

but the issue here is we, the citizens of spore, does not have any say in the rules. is this democratic or autocratic?

We have elections every few years. The government cannot and should not pander to the population for every individual decision they make. If you're not happy with the government in general, you are welcome to vote them out.

can you tell me how to vote them out when most wards are walkover wards? a lot of citizens simply do not have a chance to vote.

Why stop at becoming just a mere voter? With your big ideas and vocal thoughts, you can easily join one the many opposition parties or become an independent candidate in Singapore and stand against the ruling party. Stand behind the veil of the anonymous Internet to criticise is way too easy for anyone to do.

100% against it cos in the past, a poor guy need not pay tax of any kind at all & those working part-time could get away with paying any taxes. But now with the 7% GST, he is paying tax to the government & there's no way he could hide. Just look at this example that 2 guys wanna buy a TV & both of them dont declare income cos of watever reasons.

Poor guy salary= S$1000

Buys a TV at S$100 & with GST, it's S$107. This S$7 is 0.7% of his miserable salary

Rich guy salary= S$10000

Buys a TV at S$100 & with GST, it's S$107. This S$7 is 0.07% of his salary

So, for the poor guy that buys a TV at S$100, he need to come out 0.7% of his salary, while the rich just need to foot 0.07%. This S$7 could get the poor guy 2 meals, while for the rich, it is just a drop in the ocean.

i think this is a very good illustration and point made. [thumbsup]

Next time GST becomes 10%, they gg to call it Service Charge for what the Civil Servants are doing FOR us.

i dare say it is a matter of time gst will increase to 10% one. remember how it used to be 3% when it started ?

I rather pay higher personal tax than GST. That will save many poor including retirees and beggars from GST.

if our democratic govt allow us to vote whether gst should be increase, would you want gst increase because the govt give gst credits in the form of $$

or would you vote against it?

Nah I'd just go for a 50% reduction of the salaries of all highly-paid government officials (and they'll still be very well paid compared to their overseas counterparts). That's way more useful.

i think 50% is too much. anyway, i think PM LEE said he will donate some of his salary to charity. his cabinet will also take a pay cut.
