Amortifiedpenguin Clutched July 30, 2009 Share July 30, 2009 30x45mm sensor (i.e. 56% larger than 35mm full-frame)- thrilling. im shooting 12megapix and 1 raw file is 8 to 10MB. its not bad considering that is more versatile than H1Ds. Those were shooting 36megapix in 2004. i so love medium format.
Tkseah Turbocharged July 30, 2009 Share July 30, 2009 I feel the megapixel race is getting out of hand especially at the P&S levels.. I'd rather have a good clean 6mp than a noisy 12mp.. typical photolabs only prints at 300dpi, so.. 4R (6"x4") prints need 1800x1200 pixels.. 3mp enough liao.. 8R (10"x8") prints need 3000x2400 pixels.. 8mp enough liao.. Jolie888 Clutched July 30, 2009 Share July 30, 2009 (edited) 56% larger than full-frame, but CCD-based, not CMOS. Is that better than a full-frame, CMOS DSLR (re noise, especially above ISO 800)? But can it use Leica's 4/3-format lenses? Images may be cropped. Edited July 30, 2009 by Jolie888

Huggable Clutched July 31, 2009 Share July 31, 2009 Not necessary. You're be surprised that many "hobby" or "amateur" users have top-of-the-line equipment. I've met a group of ladies with the D3 and 24-70 last year when the camera was first released. One can even ask me "How to change exposure compensation?" That's just like an aunty who buys an Evo, always drives slowly in low rpm, and asks "how to engage the turbo?" In other words.. it's just for looks.. With the same technology at the same sensor size.. the pixel quality of a 12mp vs a 8mp would always suffer.. Cropping a 12mp to 8mp would be inferior to pic that came out of the 8mp camera. In other words, it is not good to depend on cropping to get the required picture composition. Better to zoom and compose the photo correctly before shooting..
