Sony 1st Gear July 29, 2009 Share July 29, 2009 It really depends on the job nature when they made the offer of 1 year contract. from what I know, most govt job are on normal 2 year contract and there's a chance to be offered perm but then, it's normal for the recontract to continue. then there's those project type which need extra manpower, thus you have the 1 year contract. so it depends on your job nature. you shd ask them what happen after the 1 year. renewal, chances to convert to perm or project end. anyway, if you don't like your current job, move over to try ICA out. you never know what lies at the bottom of a rainbow till you reach it. ↡ Advertisement
Sony 1st Gear July 29, 2009 Share July 29, 2009 the singapore government is not a bad employer.... once ur contract is over and convert to permanent, it is almost as good as an iron rice bowl unless there are some huge exercise like outsourcing which can happen. Even if that happen, it will take quite a while to execute and u will be fairly compensated.... unlike private co. where the treatment can be fairly arbitary beside, the fringe benefits it offer are unmatchable except those big MNC, leaves, bonuses, offs, gift vouchers etc all add in. Most importantly, is the pro-family approaches which can be non-existent in some companies, esp SME. overall, if money is not the solely career objective... civil service is not a bad choice... I think when govt outsource, they will usually neg for the people to move over to the outsourced company. guess it's one employer that don't leave their people high and dry unlike the pte sector.. Turret Clutched July 29, 2009 Share July 29, 2009 I think when govt outsource, they will usually neg for the people to move over to the outsourced company. guess it's one employer that don't leave their people high and dry unlike the pte sector.. just to add on... even if they really outsourced, the govt will still keep those few people who are better performer to manage the outsource services.... yes, you are right, however onced moved over, they are no longer can enjoy what they used to get.. and they have to fend for themselves from then onwards in the long run. In the short term over the first few years, that is not a problem - the problem really come whether there is continuity of services or need to be deployed elsewhere once the existing contract is over - some people cannot get used to such unsettling kind of experiences... they rather have stable and secured job position...... but this is the trend nowadays in the pte sector... pity those who cannot adapt to such trend....
