SAF used Open Office, my opinion: almost similar to MS office but i find the features quite user unfriendly... maybe thats because its from SAF

but then again, its FOC so cannot complain

I would say its 90% similar to Msoffice. I downloaded open office to my netbook coz i dun have a cd drive. Till now, no complain, only need to remember to save the files as msoffice file if u intend to share.

Previously ... what I experienced is that .... the excel sheet which I saved on the Excel when opened from the OpenOffice equivalent of spreadsheets .... some alignment is out.

Is it still true now?

I just downloaded and installed it.

The first document that I wanna open is my database which has pivot-table function.

After I installed it .... open the file ...... guess what ...

ALL the "Getpivotdata" function is NOT working ......

So that's it ..... as much as I wanna use Open Office ... I can't ..... [thumbsdown]

I downloaded the file from .... http://www.openoffice.org/.

Then installed it. By the way, this version is 3.1.

I open my excel file with Calc ..... and all the "GetPivotData" all displayed as "#Ref".

So no choice ... must use back MS Office.

tried the Open Office word processing for awhile, its pretty similar to MS Word, but in the end decided to stick to MS Word as I found it more familiar.

Neutral Newbie

I'm happy with OOo as I'm a simple spreadsheet and word processor user that has little MS Office documents to convert to or from. I just create ODF documents in OOo for my own use. In the past when I have MS Office documents containing heavy formatting and MS proprietory functions, OOo may be unable to convert these stuff.

I would say OOo is for those who want a competent office suite without paying for it. Granted many people in this region don't give a damn about software legality and get to use MS Office by paying a few dollars only, so there is little incentive to use legal alternatives like OOo.

if u open a doc made in MS Word with plenty of tables, alignments....u will get some distortion when opened in Openoffice.

I can't even get the Pivot-table to work in the excel equivalent.

It is good. But since it runs on JAVA. Slow. Better than nothing. Good for home use. Office? Let company buy MSOffice.

Nice thing about OO.org is that the OO Writer can export directly to .pdf file.

OO.org can only open MSOffice 97-2000 files. Not the new Vista version files.

Now it can't even open spreadsheets with pivot-table on it ..... then can forget it liao ......
