Mine was a new ride and was entitled to the Green Vehicle Rebate.

Purchase price was lower for CNG car.

hmmm.. save 30% of petrol can cover the cost installation of CNG?

I installed cng tank on my honda fit 1 year back.

I did not fork out any additional money to install that as its was deducted through the rebate by the government.

However, having said that, one still have to pay back the pro-rated rebate if one sells the car next time.

Depends on the usage, the break even point can be as short as 2years.

things to consider when installing cng:

1) new car vs old car - new car got rebate from gov. hence dun need to fork out cash to install it.

2) boot space - if you are someone who needs lots of boot space.. then.. can forget about it. (my boots are empty most of the time.)

3) location - if you need to travel more than 5-10km just to pump the gas, it just doesnt make economical sense.

4) power - if you someone who are hungry for power, dun install cng.. 5-10% lost of power for cng is common.

5) cng sticker - if you think you cant stand the sticker.. pls dun install too.. cos one would get fined if sticker is not on the front and back bumper.

6) reliability - as cng is still considered 'young' in spore, there might have some issues here and there.

so far, i have not experienced any of the problems myself. $12 of gas can travel about 190km. only issue for me is, sometimes it would take ard 10-15mins to pump gas during peak hours. and maybe the lost of power..

So u mean if buy new car gov will sponsor you the 3k to install CNG so u no need pay a single cent?

it's just stupid to be carrying a gas tank in your boot...the extra weight alone (60-70kg) is already enough to make your car drink more...

some might say it's stupid to pay for more expensive fuel? [rolleyes]

just a thought. i drive a regular petrol car like most others here

I seriously dont think CNG is for the future. Just a weak stepping stone alternative.

fully agreed. i think diesel hybrid is the best but dunno why car makers are using petrol hybrids. ah well...

but diesel up till now still doesn't feel as refined as the petrol alternative...even if you bought a BMW or Merc diesel...you can still feel the vibrations at traffic stops and hear the engine clatter...quite noticably...

there's some rebate for new cars. they wun sponsor u per se, but it more than offsets the cost of installing the CNG tanks. i believe only CnC offers it new (merc E200 NGT) but other parallel importers do too.

Sometime I think Biodiesel is bit stupid, converting food into fuel and the process to convert is not cheap either.

Biodiesel from used cooking oil maybe still ok but it's very difficult to convert to biodiesel efficiently due to fluctuated chemical compuond.

Then can get the CNG enabled car...... for the rebate..... then remove the gas tank and continue using petrol?

the CNG is factory fitted in germany. I spoke to an owner he claims he bought his E200 NGT for 13X,XXX. Cheap.

Any bro out there regret installing CNG gas with the current petrol price....

No regrets.

1) Mandai CNG station is 8km from my home

2) 11 km/litre of petrol verses 18km/kg of gas

3) Boot is empty all the time, even with CNG tank installed

4) Pump petrol once every 6 to 8 weeks average

5) Pump gas every 3 days average

6) Pass holder of Jurong Island

7) Pump at Serangoon once in a while

8) Install at $2500, one of the earliest batch almost 2 years back

9) Engine NEVER DIEs on gas

10) Ride is Nissan Sunny Manual

Personally, it's poor man's choice. If I am rich enough, I will not even worry about petrol prices and car FC. Hope it helps.
