CNG...Anyone regret installing???

OMG :blink: Even petrol injectors also burnt, you must be trashing your car. Agree with you that the engine must be in good condition before conversion. Got a colleague that convert his old Sunny to CNG and he's swearing at it.

 

So VSR is true afterall, so starting up on petrol would not help much. :huh:

How many km did you run on CNG before your engine when overhaul

80k km.

 

After that my injector started to crap up. I ignored it until the afterfires damaged the engine. After the injectors are replaced, I continued driving w/o overhauling it. Driving and driving until I lost power and decided something had to be done.

 

Dunno if it is VSR but the car was trashed hard to really put the blame on VSR.

Mine two years old running at 50k km and only change the filter once.

Had spoken to some taxi driver at Toh Tuck and their vehicles had already clocked 100+km and no problem.

I think I saw you a couple of time at Toh Tuck with your kids [wave]

A happy diesel convert:

 

The road tax from a 3.0TDI will kill your savings on petrol. TDI has very good torque, low end superb, but once it goes past 3500-4000rpm, no breath already.

but you'll have to contend with an underpowered engine which struggles to get past 100kph....

 

you sure diesel engine car nowadays are underpowered? And need to struggle once it pass 100kph?

Bought a 1 year old CNG car for 2 months already,

 

this is wat i get:

 

Every 100km +/- = S$ 20.40 of Ron95 petrol or

= S$ 18.50 of CNG or

= S$ 9 (malaysia Petrol) or

= S$ 4.6 (malaysia CNG)

lost 50% boot space

lost 30-40 % of drive pleasure (power / respond) when using CNG

lost about $6-7K in paper value when scrap

Thats why I never convert to CNG. Its still too new to know the real problems with it. Many pple rush in but end up with so many problems & the savings also not that great.

 

The biggest disadvantege is the big yellow tank in the boot among the other problems that come with CNG.

 

I just hope the big boys from Daimler & the other Geramn manufacturers can quickly "convince" our gharmen to "encourage" diesel cars here.

 

Then I can consider switching to diesel power. [thumbsup]

Haha nv did i regret installing cng due to the current pertol price, but totally regretted installing it due to the problems faced, been visiting the workshop over 30 times in a 1 yr spand super problemetic( engine failure, no power, shaky engine, auto stalling car etc.) wonder how reliable is the technology. and in total the cost of repairing due to cng prob is higher than what i am actually suppose to save so bros out there think u betta THINK MORE THAN THRICE! before u decide. DAMM REGRETED!!!!! DUN GET CON!

Actually if its done professionally & properly, CNG is good.

 

Unfortunately those being installed in SG r crap. I wonder what kind of training the mechs went tru b4 being allowed to do installations here?

 

Maybe u noticed most of the problems r due to poor installation & tuning of the systems. I guess its also down to the very little experience the local installers have.

 

It is a tried & tested technology. Only that in SG, they always put the cart b4 the horse just to make a profit at our expense.

I doubt so cos those diesel cars getting lower taxes r only for those Euro 4 & 5 which need low sulphur diesel to run well.

 

Even regular pumping in MY is a no-no cos their diesel has too high sulphur at the moment. It wil cause problems with the filters, injectors & who knows what else.

 

If our gharmen is serious about clean enviourment, they must get petrol cars to switch to diesel cos its much cleaner than petrol.

 

But then again, IS OUR GHARMEN REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT THE ENVIOURMENT OR ABOUT THEIR TAX REVENUE & COFFERS?

I was considering a twin-cab cos it wil suit my fishing trips up north but then again, if its registered with a "G" plate, I cant drive it north without buying a special permit from MY gharmen.

 

The pic u posted of the guy with a Diesel Merc is a good example of very good diesel but unfortunately, his road tax presently is a killer. [sweatdrop]

 

Even the Skoda diesel is a pretty good buy but only if the road tax is the same or less than a similar petrol car.

Thats when the turbo comes in. Once it goes above abt 3K RPM, the turbo give it a 2nd wind to continue all the way to 5K + RPM.

 

Diesels sud do well with a super & turbo charger like what VW has in some of their petrol small engines cars.

 

At the moment, switching to a diesel car is only worth if u drive maybe 40K km plus a year. Not many pple drive that much in SG.

even with their turbos, it cannot compete with FI petrols / NA petrols at higher speeds or even dragging...

 

it worth it in europe but not here.

Overhaul was at 180k km.

 

Now at 195k km mileage.

 

I will hit 200k km by Aug or Sep.

actually, u r those kind of car enthusiast that i respect.

 

won't spend unnecessary money to overcome problem.

 

instead, u diagnose and rectify it so that it can continue running like a horse, at minimal cost

For the record, can anyone advise is it legit to remove the CNG tank from a CNG car?

If I dun care and get some workshop to remove it (and I keep it somewhere), do I need to put it back for LTA inspection subsequently?

Has this been done before? Advise pls.

Paying lip services to whichever environment protocols, but when it comes to things that affects the coffers or tax structures, the incentives are always temporary with a expiry date. But when among governments worldwide that wants to implement a Carbon Tax, it'll be swift and immediate. There will not be any annual review or expiry date to it.
