Dashingd Neutral Newbie July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 Can anyone here advise how to prevent static build up on our body? Especially after a long drive (>30mins)? I keep getting static discharge whenever I exit my car after a long drive. Its very irritating when I close the door and the static strikes my fingers. I also know its very dangerous at the petrol station if I don't discharge the static before picking up the pump. Anyone with similar problems and solutions to share? ↡ Advertisement
Chao5 1st Gear July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 You may want to get a gadget to dissipate the charges before touching the car. There's a cool device available online for this purpose. http://www.uxcell.com/handy-static-removal...ng-p-11374.html

Kangadrool Supersonic July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 Having the same problem too. It's due to fabric seat rubbing with your body and clothing. Cheapest solution is to, put a bamboo seat cover on top of your seat. But, your car will look like lorry or taxi uncle. if u dun mind

Kb27 Supersonic July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 Wear anti-static wrist strap like those in working in an ESD environment. Or find a way to touch a metallic object with 1 mohm resistor that connects to the car chassis. Static charge build up when you are seating on fabric and rubbing against it. It gets worse when you use aircon which dries the air.

Kb27 Supersonic July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 Leather may be more conductive, but some people are more prone to static. Some people put a conductive strap at the rear of the car to touch the ground. Watwheels Supersonic July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 Seriously, the ions in the air of the supermarket is -ve charge plus the friction created while pushing the trolley you get zapped easily. The solution is use a basket instead of a trolley.
