Zniper 2nd Gear July 19, 2009 Share July 19, 2009 i tink anti-air, there is someting call locking the target... so the missles will only hit tat target once u lock on to it... if u r toking about using anti-air guns to shoot planes nowadays, it will be very difficult.... but locking a target is very common now... ↡ Advertisement
Drive_carcar Clutched July 19, 2009 Share July 19, 2009 i pose this question to you. by today's technological advancement, If a few squadron of the world's best fighter planes attack a fleet of warships, consisting of aircraft carrier and her accompanying warships and frigates armed with the latest defense systems, which side will lose, and why ? thanks.. If the warships and air-craft carriers are far out at sea, and out of the operating range of fighter air-crafts, then another air-craft carrier would be required to bring the fighter planes nearer to the range of it's targets. Otherwise, and air to air refuel is required, and during air to air refuel, it's the most hazardous and vulnerable window for the fighter plane. Also only 1 fighter can be refuelled at a time. Long range guided missiles can do the same job with much lesser risk. In the war of the future, a fighter pilot might just be obsolete for their own good. As future fighter jets can be pilot via remote control.
Blueray Hypersonic July 19, 2009 Share July 19, 2009 can use low tech improvised floatation device to sneak up to the ships ... ?
Watwheels Supersonic July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 Use cruise missiles can already what why send pilots and sacrifice themselves on a boat? Too much money? Now got UAV which the pilot is far far away piloting it by remote to serve as reconnaissance. Kamikaze pilots are so WWII.
Bird5011 3rd Gear July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 If I am the Chief Commander with "Star war" technology... I would use the Laser Beam to zap and hot fried the carrier And UAV to boombard the destroyers.....
Davidklt Supercharged July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 Its a useless argument. The two forces are designed for interoperability not against each other. If you are talking about versus air force vs opposition navy. The variables are different.
Rickster 5th Gear July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 i think the air force has an advantage because it can rain bombs on the ships while it is difficult for the war ships to shoot at the super sonic (faster than speed of sound) planes and hope to hit it. in other words, ships are like sitting ducks but planes are evasive. true ? Bro, today is not WW2. U can't juz fly over a ship and drop a bomb on them! :D

Rncw 5th Gear July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 typically a US Carrier Strike Group (CSG) may consists of 1x Nimitz class carrier (CVN) 1x cruiser (Ticonderoga class CG) 2 or 3x destroyer (Arleigh Burke or Oscar Austin class DDG) 2 or 3x frigates (Oliver Hazard Perry class FFG) 1x attack class submarine (SSN) 1x replenisment ship for supplies and ammunitions (USNS) but different groups may consist of more or lesser support vessels example: CSG 9 (COMCARSTRKGRU Nine) USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) USS Russell (DDG-59) USS Mobile Bay (CG-53) Destroyer Squadron 9 (COMDESRON Nine) USS Rodney M Davis (FFG-60) USS Ford (FFG-54) USS Ingraham (FFG-61) USS Shoup (DDG-86) USS Momsen (DDG-92) USS Curts (FFG-38) Carrier Air Wing 2 VFA-2, Bounty Hunters VFA-151, Vigilantes VFA-137, Kestrels VAQ-131, Lancers VAW-116, Sun Kings HS-2, Golden Falcons HSL 47, Saberhawks VFA-34, Blue Blasters
Rickster 5th Gear July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 what if the air force engages in suicide crashing onto the warships ? dont think the warships can take evasive action to thwart incoming crashing planes given their slow speeds in knots. also, it seems like much more difficult to shoot down a plane than for a plane to bomb a ship. agree ? Every warship has a CIWS (close in weapon systems) usually, they are super rapid firing chain guns of at least 20mm. Will shred any incoming matter to dusts. Rickster 5th Gear July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 one carrier can easily has 60-100 planes on board. it can easily defend any approach enemy air force one carrier has 6000 personnel on board.... that is, FYI, our entire SG navy population with our entire air force planes on board..... dun play play..... i think one carrier already has more planes than our entire SG air force..... SG has enough planes to populate 2 US aircraft carriers.
