Why does cars like vw and a few other brands has 15k/20k servicing intervals, whereas for jap/kor cars service interval are at 10k?

Do they use diffrent syn oil or their engines are better build?

European cars are designed with very strict emission control. So less contamination to the oil as fuel is burnt. This is one factor.

Another factor is European car have a larger oil sump (above 5L of oil) than Japanese counterparts (3.5L of oil). So the lifespan is extended.
