Bullterrier Clutched July 13, 2009 Share July 13, 2009 (edited) Not too sure abt the reliability but went down to the showroom over the weekend to check out and test drove the C4 1.6 turbo 5 doors. Lovely designed exterior and interior. Very futuristic in concept and application and I am sure it will be an enjoyable car to drive and own for years to come. I especially liked the way the car handle the corners fast and going over the road humps was a non event. I actually went for another round of the winding road and road humps just to ensure that the car is that good on the handling. Asking price is fair and the OMV is decent. What made me walk away from the deal though was the non guaranteed 6 COE bids and 60,000km 3 years warranty. Rickster 5th Gear July 14, 2009 Share July 14, 2009 Conti cars r generally a joy to drive. However, take note of the warranty (60K limitation is really ) as their parts replacement will cost a bomb. Other than that, regular maintenance not much diff from jap/korean makes.
Felipe 3rd Gear July 14, 2009 Share July 14, 2009 actually, no one can afford to make unreliable cars these days. as for warranty, it does not cover wear and tear items. so even if you get 100k warranty, u'll have to pay for wear tear items like brakes. warranty covers key components like engine, which is very unlikely to give way at 60k or even 100k. why 60k? conti cars usually use timing belts and these last around 60-70k. so warranty covers till then. I was looking @ a C4GP myself. I will hav to wait abt 1/2 yr more for my car to breakeven 1st.

Weiming 1st Gear July 14, 2009 Share July 14, 2009 I believe the current C4 reliability has increased tremendously (can find some links if Googled). There are probably more Citroens on the roads now because C&C has done a fantastic job marketing the marque and it also helps that the newer models have better designs (C4, C4GP, C4P, C5). I do like the C5 but the 2L version is too anaemic and the gearbox is a let down, only a 4 speeder. Also, the LCD screen in the interior is absent in local models. Rjmsfire Neutral Newbie July 14, 2009 Share July 14, 2009 Citroen cars nowadays don't breakdown like your what your uncles and grandfathers used to tell you. What you buy now are cars with modern engineering and design. However they do have little faults here and there sometimes. Things like sensor failure, squeaking panels, cosmetic plastic bits falling off after a while, etc. But that depends on your luck. Doesn't happen to every car. Don't worry about the 6 non-guaranteed COE bids. It's on paper only. They get their customers' COEs without delay. It makes business sense to get the COE and quickly deliver the car and collect the money, isn't it? They are not shady PIs that actually make you wait a few months for COE. Chickenbackside 1st Gear July 14, 2009 Share July 14, 2009 (edited) I just came back from France, and the most common cars you see on the roads are Citroen and Peugeots. Japanese cars are relatively RARE there. You see one maybe once in 1/2 hour of traveling. All the taxis I have taken there were mostly either brands as well, and I took notice of their odometers. They all read above 100,000km. Some even more than 500,000km. I must say, I was very impressed at how the 307, 407, C4,C5's and even the Skoda Superb felt at high mileages. Everything felt tight. Not much creaking. The seats were still firm. Carpets looked ok, plastics looked ok...etc. It has changed my perception about modern French cars' reliability. I wouldn't avoid one after this eye opening experience. Traffic in Paris is terrible and start stop conditions are the norm. If they cars can take that abuse and still feel so good after such high mileages, it should do well in Singapore. Ikan Neutral Newbie July 14, 2009 Share July 14, 2009 I'm just sold off my 5 years old C4 last month. I can say C4 is a very good car, for the latest model better. Old version have gearbox problem, old transmission 4 gear. Very jerky when you in slow speed. But new version I think this problem has been solve. For the first 4 years when I drive C4, everything is ok, cabin super quite, super comfort, engine is power enough for 1.6 car, FC is reasonable 11.5km/l, and the styling is smart too. But till 4 and half years, a lot of problem cames. Is not a ride quality, is a parts. Brake Pad have to change regularly, wear off very fast, the engine compartment rubber and plastic all loosen. Firewall at engine area drop off. The electric servicing reminder warning light keep warning and warning. Aircon compressor going to spoil, window problem etc... Feel like it only last for 5 years. But I love this car :). If not such kind of problem, I will drive it ten years. For the price of C4 now, is very attractive. Much much cheaper than CIVIC and near to Latio price. But the interior exterior quality is much much better. FUll function of technology. If you have higher budget, go for Golf 1.4. I feel that is the best car of all.
