How much a 2nd hand dealer tries to make from a Sonata

Hyundai Sonata

This was my friend's Sonata, he traded in for a VW Touran at 26,000.

Now selling at 35.8k, not a bad ROI if the dealer manages to sell at asking price.

BTW, if anyone is interested in this, the mileage was 86,000.

think its common, the dealer have their cost to maintain, and risk to take. If their margin is only 1-2k, they have to eat grass alrd... i remember plenty of 2nd hand car dealers closed during the "COE Crisis". They took in the car at high price and in the end, have to swallow all the losses themself cos most people go for new car since it is more value for money.

actually. to be frightfully honest.

i think your friend was a bit of an idiot to trade it in for $26k.

most likely his overly friendly VW SE.

acted like she was doing him a big fat favour

by taking the car off his hands.

screwed him over, by offering him practically paper.

makan more than a few $$k for herself.

before flogging it off to the 2nd hand dealer.

who marked it up accordingly.

just a hypothesis...

This is actually the frightful truth for many owners who want to upgrade their cars. In the process of purchasing the new car, the owner just wants a peace of mind when getting rid of the current car in the most 'trustworthy'(perceived), convenient, and efficient way. The key here is education and experience.

I told him as much, but he just couldn't resist....and he went the direct selling route before, ie. bought new car before selling old car, he ended up paying installment for two cars for three months while waiting for offers to come in for his old one!

And to think, he paid 66k for that Sonata three years ago, calculate the depreciation on that!

For bread and butter class korean/contis, generally car dealers will only take in at max 2K above scrap value. For the japanese counterparts, only slightly better between 2-4K above scap. [sweatdrop]

ADs are one of the biggest culprits in causing rising premiums every year [shakehead]

nowadays otr a lot of new cars.

For every damn minor accident, one party will not hesitate to go for AD, provided if you are he victim.....but if you are in the wrong, you will go to normal workshop. [thumbsup]

Ya, recently got into a minor accident on my then, 3 weeks old car. Backside just got kissed and the bumper only got scratches n slightly slanted.

Brought it back to AD, they changed the entire bumper to a fee of 4.5K!!!

The bumper is just a black plastic bumper that is not sprayed to body colour. No rear fog lights attached to it as well. [sweatdrop] [sweatdrop] [sweatdrop]
