Rims are done by casting, one mould can produce many pieces, process like this is cost effective. To fabricate the mould, of course they design to make it simple yet nice.

A more complicated design, the mould and the rim will have more machining process. More costly to produce.

Basically the process to construct are more important, forge process give better quality rims.

But I would imaging if there are more spokes spread around, when turning the centrifugal force would be more evenly distributed?

so 2 piece, 3 piece rims more cost effective to produce? can mix and match the parts to create wider model range especially for different offsets and width to fit more cars.....

but then how come they are so goddamn ex?

not only the numbers of spoke also the thinkness of spoke and whole rim do affect the weight and strength.

as far as production cost is concerned,material/process/R&D(testing) play a very important factors.

in reality world most peoples are concerned more of LOOK and $.

So that always a compromised

remember what you pay is what you get and know what you are buying [thumbsup]

performance is dictated by the wheel weight and not by how many spokes. many performance wheels have 5 or 6 spoke designs.

interesting, and while we're at it, are steel rims (black without any spokes whatsoever like those on taxis) BAD? discounting the fact that they may be heavier.

Steel rims may be more heavy.
