Get Garmin. My friend used Tibo, and the interface was horrible, search function was frequently off (among other issues). He sold it away and got a Garmin after 2 weeks with the Tibo.

It's personal opinion though, you might want to compare them. Just that it's not like you change a GPS unit every 3 months - and a good GPS can really improve tremendously the driving experience. $100 is worth all that to go for a good brand with a tried-and-tested interface.

That's weird, which chipset and model was your Garmin? The latest Garmins all come with the SIRF III chipset, which has a proven track record for maintaining satellite connections.

Been all around Malaysia, and our Garmin Nuvis never lost a signal. Could it be an older model?

the most important thing is, how often is map upgrade? is it free? or have to pay.

I decided to go for Garmin 205W last Dec at $360, IIRC, at Dec Expo show with Jerome map Plus included.

You can get Garmin 205W from Navicom at around $299 (if offer still on) and use MalSing map for free and very updated [thumbsup]

Agreed with above posters! Ultimately a GPS's objective is to efficiently help you route your journey, and the most important factor is the map quality, update frequency, and coverage.

In that aspect, I believe nothing comes close to Garmin so far.

Well......... Garmin is the market leader for GPS for a reason....

Besides, there's also MFM which have free map updates weekly!

Supersonic

Many lesser name gps has to compete on price.

So they have to undercut Garmin.

Which is good for everyone as Garmin would be force to lower its price as well.

Spend a little more on Garmin, and you are unlikely to regret.

caltex also offering holux at 299. not sure what model though.

Bought Holux 62 from Caltex. Satisfied customer [thumbsup]

Owned a Garmin and Tibo before, personal experience tells me two things top my list:

1) Processing speed

2) Map accuracy

This unit fits my priorities as the speed is fast even coming out of basement car park after hours. [bounce2]

Map is accurate and I've no problem in M'sia also [flowerface]

Only drawback is map is limited to these two countries. Fine with me though. [rolleyes]

Can I ask, I have a 200W, with malsing and jerome wee maps. Is it possible to use SLA or the MFM to enable postal code search function?

the 2 maps I have are terrible in POI search. Places like joo chiat crescent, place, etc are unfindable... due to short form cres, or pl, or somehow, does not turn out any results
