Vtim 3rd Gear June 22, 2009 Author Share June 22, 2009 This is not the first time I hear Alutec cracked. I think there are quite a few cases reported in Vios forum. I used a no-name Taiwanese lightweight crank pulley. It has lasted over 3 years without problem. Initially after reading about Alutec, I also worried and checked it every now and then. Almost wanted to take mine out, but didn't. it is possible that the Alutec wasn't properly balance, causing to vibrate slightly and over time crack under stress ↡ Advertisement
Vtim 3rd Gear June 22, 2009 Author Share June 22, 2009 You can leave it at D. that's what I did when I went up Genting, came down I just deactivate OD. yes, D can do also, just that it will be much slower for my 2ton+ MPV. I usually take about 21mins to reach the top from the foothill of Genting
Vtim 3rd Gear June 22, 2009 Author Share June 22, 2009 On my return leg this afternoon. I came across 3 chain accidents + 1 chain accident on the opposite side (probably cos rubber necking)...all within a few hundred meter of each other. Each involved between 3 and 7 cars. that's bad man.

Vtim 3rd Gear June 22, 2009 Author Share June 22, 2009 Bro Vtim, just wondering... wat do u use or how do you mount your N97 on your dashboard? Thanks this is how I mount my previous N95, as the N97's charger connection is on the left side (will be bottom when flip in this position), I need to move the handphone holder much more to the left then the one shown on the picture You can get the holder very cheap at Mustafa (it's open 24 x 7). not sure if its still the same price as I bought it about 2yrs ago

Vtim 3rd Gear June 22, 2009 Author Share June 22, 2009 At 160km/h? What car you drove? Korean 2ton+ MPV
Vtim 3rd Gear June 22, 2009 Author Share June 22, 2009 Sure it can be avoided. If Vtim slammed on the brakes, monkey would escape scot free but Vtim would get slammed from behind. I don't think that is a proposition one would consider, don't you think? that's true, on Highway or Expressway, it's different from city drving. At that kind of speed, I can only let go the throttle a bit and then move to the left, stop and take a look at the damage. If I jam brake at 160km/h, my MPV may even swing left or right and then flip over.

Jetabout777 1st Gear June 22, 2009 Share June 22, 2009 I think day to day driving is not a problem, for my case, my ride is a MPV and 2ton+ on this trip up north on NS HW, almost pedal to the metal in order to make it move up down Genting, gear is on D2, so it is always changing from L to D2 then D2 to L most of the time, RPM is always on the high side, maybe because of this high engine load, thats why the Aluminium Crank pulley can't stand the stress and give way Pity your car. I am sure it worked damn hard and suffered for your trip! Even on NSHW, your engine note seems to be screaming!
Fortress Clutched June 22, 2009 Share June 22, 2009 (edited) Just wondering about the speed you were heading during the hit, didn't seems to slow down. Your son was very alert to notice the monkey. Money is nothing compared to the safety and health of the family. Edited June 22, 2009 by Fortress
Vtim 3rd Gear June 22, 2009 Author Share June 22, 2009 Pity your car. I am sure it worked damn hard and suffered for your trip! Even on NSHW, your engine note seems to be screaming! I have a DIY CAI from stock airbox (with K & N filter) that is connected to the small opening of the bonnet, SS 4-1 header, phenolic spacer between TB and engine blcok, stock ECU dyno tuned, that's why it gets so loud as compare to stock. Just to let you know, my 2ton+ MPV is almost 5yrs (Jul 04) old and mileage is already 160k+ km. Engine needs to be rev once in a while to clear the carbon deposite inside due to too much city driving here in Singapore, the NS HW is the best place to do it. You need to be a petrol head to understand and appreciate all these ↡ Advertisement
