Any views on horning at other fellow dangerous road users?

Was with friends on my way back, at bukit timah road, near the nissan showroom that stretch, there was this nissan sunny who swerved at slow speed from his lane to my lane to make a turn. Totally unexpected, admit i was near or a little over the speed limit at that time, but before he switch lane he should check first?

Friends was like no need to horn, was quite angry cause i had to jam brake, he came into my lane at 1.5 car length difference, it was too dangerous for me to go into his lane as i had no time to check behind me, only could jam my brakes to prevent crashing into his car..

So, what is the 'reasonable' limit for horning at others? I know some only highbeam, but its quite ineffective in day time and even at night, while some can hold on the horn for seconds.. Your Views?

It's more effective to horn during the day and highbeam at nite.

By horning, you are warning the other car of a potential accident. or sometimes just a sudden outburst due to the other party's reckless driving.

I've never found any occasion to use my horn except to beep hello to my colleagues in the morning. I found that it's to my benefit to focus that second and a half that I need to press the horn on avoiding any mishap with braking, checking my blindspots and swerving instead.

horn is there to be used. if u have to brake more then gently, then the car in front is wrong

So what if the car in front is wrong? I'd rather stop or avoid him than spend effort giving that car a blast and still kiss its backside.

A jaywalker dashing in front of you is wrong too. Horn and he'll freeze like bambi right in your tracks. See this happening so many times...

(edited)

my comment was addressed to TS, not you.

I typed in fast reply so your reply just happen to be in front of mine.

I'm not saying u r wrong or wat to do is right. please dun pick a fight here with me, if u want that's your problem, not mine, i did not address u at all. u make presumptions and that is typical of someone trying to be a nuisance. You better not be out to troll.

Now these are fighting words. Trying to be a nuisance? Accusing someone of trolling?

Nevermind. Go ahead. Horn. You paid for it anyway. Makes no difference to me when you bang that fella who's wrong. Have a nice weekend.

Yep, this is my POV as well. When you need to take emergency evasive action, you don't have time to horn man! Just avoid the accident, thank your lucky stars, and [furious][furious][furious] at the guy/woman afterwards!

However, I feel it's alright to horn when some dic-head in front of you wants to filter, at the last minute, from a 'going straight' lane, to a 'right/left turn' lane. Reasons being either forgot to filter earlier, or more irritatingly, wanted to cut queue 'cos impatient to wait like everybody else [furious] !

Not only is this extremely dangerous to vehicles travelling behind, but also mega inconsiderate to fellow road users. For goodness sakes, if you missed your chance to turn, just go to the next goddamn junction and make a u-turn!

A lady in a car in front of me was reversing into me without looking.

I horn a little bit and she still kept reversing.

I had to horn for a few seconds before she realise I was behind her.

Thank goodness for the horn if not she would have hit me.

So is it ok to horn?

i tink our nation drivers took horning too seriously n sometimes personally, lets just say when someone horn u is because something u may have not done correctly or safely, or to remind u to check ur blind spots..

in indonesia, they horn each other to warn that they are overtaking..in india, or dunno where..they will horn before they start the car..

anyway, i feel it is perfectly right to horn if it is of good intention, to warn the other driver before any accidents happen..

cheers

Some people have this idea that horning is equivalent to the middle finger.

The horn is used to warn of potential danger. Use it if you must.

Supercharged

Nothing wrong to horn ... if he is changing lane at a slow speed and you are coming up fast .. horn when he have the slightest intention to make a lane change which might cause you to take evasive action .. i always standby to horn .. [:p]

Turbocharged

I think the TS meant horning AFTER he jam brakes to show his displeasure.

I am curious, how about those inconsiderate drivers???

example, right lane turning lane is jammed so this guy cuts into the center lane, then drive ahead and tries to cut back in. Fails due to jam so he waits on the center lane.

will u horn??? I will horn the hell out of him but I see a lot of singaporeans will wait quietly behind the guy blocking the center lane....

IMHO, there is no right or wrong to use the horn/high beam in this scenario [nod]

If you horn, it would serve as a reminder for him to wake up from his ideas & check his blindspot the next time he attempt to cut into another lane. Hopefully .... [:|]

Sometimes high beaming doesn't work as well as horning cos that fellow infront might not even notice about it -_-

There was once when i was driving my Nissan March when an Ah Pek whom was busy talking to his passengers that he didn't even noticed that i was jus half a car's length at the side of him when he simply jus started to sway into my lane [shakehead]

My left was a concrete wall and there was nothing much i could do except horning, horning, horning & at the same time jam my brakes [furious]

At the split of a second, he finally hear my Mickey Mouse horn & sway back to his own lane.

Bro, best is practice defensive driving & stay alert cos there are always tons of this type of people on our roads daily [nod]
