Talking DSG, i really like the way Jeremy described it. You have two butlers. One gives you the gear you need at the current moment while the other quickly finds another gear and readies it to be used by you, all on a silver platter.

But i wonder how Mitsubishi's own SST compares to DSG. hmmm hmmm

Which episode is that? Hahaz, didnt knw he said tat. Quite a cool way of describing it. =)

Somehow i feel that VW's DSG is better. They spend like yrs refining it b4 its launch in the market whereas the rest of the competitors prob jus rush thru it to have a piece of the dual-clutch market share. But tats my own view, haven tried the SST, PDK, BMW's or Volvo's.

Certainly i am impressed by VW's ceaseless innovations and efforts in bringing unprecedented technologies/capabilities. All despite its moniker as the "Toyota" of Europe. If only the real McCoy was that on the ball as well. [rolleyes]

All your minds are so corrupted by power and call it a "monster". [laugh]

The supercharger is first activated in the low rpms to build up enough exhaust gas fast(thru more efficient combustion) to power the turbocharger. If the 1.4L is only turbocharged, the 1.4L NA on its own(before the turbo kicks in) will struggle to move exhaust gas thru the turbines to build up boost bcos of the weight of the car. This is called turbo lag. It takes some time to have the power delivery kicking in. SC is to eliminate that lag to have a more responsive engine from low rpms.

If the engine capacity is larger eg. 2.0L dan the SC is not really necessarily needed. Cos the 2.0L NA is able to accelerate the car with all its weight with ease with or without the turbocharger. So on low rpms it relys on the torque from the 2.0L NA , on mid rpms the boost from the turbocharger takes over.

That's why in VW range you only see the 1.4L have both SC & TC while the 2.0L have only TC.

the reason why that delta S4 was twin charged was yes like what u said...to eliminate turbo lag...and yes they can have a bigger engine but that would be competing in a different set of rules under the grp B rally category which is why they stuck to the 1.8L engine...the specs itself already shows and FYI it does 0-100 2.9 secs on GRAVEL...In case u didnt know...take the audi quattro S1 for instance...2.1 Liter engine with ONLY turbo but its damn hard to driev cos of the laggy turbocharger...and thats why it lost to the delta S4 in speed
