    • Branded bikes. Worth the money and fetches better resale.

    • Just another brand. Probably won't sell for more then other brands in the resale market.

Hey guys. Looking to get a mountain bike and I've always had the Trek brand imprinted in my mind for some reason. Must be damned good marketing or subliminal advertising going on there. Nope, I'm not an Armstrong fan and I didn't even know he rode one. LOL.

Just wanted to gauge what the general populace thinks of this brand. Whether or not you're into biking, I'd like to see your views.

I would prefer other brands.. GT Avalanche, Giant XTC Team and Specialized Rockhopper for a hardtail.

Maybe you can go www.mtbr.com to see some of the reviews..

FYI, most bicycles are either made in Taiwan or China nowaday.. Mid end to high end are made in Taiwan. Low end to mid end are made in China..

Neutral Newbie

If you may, there is an alternative brand. Jamis, you can give Hup Leong (Chinatown) a call, no obligation. They are somewhat the go to people for mountain bikes in sg scene.

And its not that expensive.

Go to www.togoparts.com to read up more.

Thanks for the responses guys. To be honest, I don't see many Treks on the roads. I may see one out of twenty branded MTBs which may be a Trek. Just don't understand why they're priced so high.

Almost all of the Treks you see were made in Taiwan, except for a few of the top end OCLV bikes that were still made in USA. I'm not sure if things have changed since then.

treks are SERIOUSLY overpriced. buy only if you like the brand and if you have the extra cash.

if not, go for other brands. i am better with roadie/tri bikes, but i am in consensus with nerdyfrog, go to hup leong to enquire. those guys are good.

isn't Cannondale priced higher?

OT: used to lust after Merlin, Litespeed titanium frame, but so expensive to me as good as unobtainium.

Sometimes he doesn't know what he wants yet. You might be the one to just give him a nudge in the right direction? Options never hurt, do they? Well, not to me at least
