The difference among balancing, aligment and side slip

Normally we want to workshop for tyre rotation or change new tyre. They did tyre balancing with a stand alone machine with the tyre and rim turing. So what is aligment check? It is neccessary when changing to new tyre that i need to go for aligment? Will a side slip test do the job?

It is definitely recommended to do a wheel alignment if the car pulls to one side, or the steering wheel doesn

Today (Saturday) morning, I went to Comfortdelgro to replace my rear leaking brake cylinder and have the 4 tyres rotated. I was the last customer to leave at 12:30pm (they operate half day on Saturday). After the repair and tyre rotation, I found that my ride has become more bumpy and vibrates while traveling on normal flat road.

As CAS was already closed, I went to Shell to have my tyres balanced. They took out and balanced my 2 front tyres (for $15).

The ride is slightly less bumpy after the front tyre balancing at Shell, but it is no longer as stable as before the repair and tyre rotation.

Has anyone experienced this before?

If your new tyre is the same profile, alignment is not needed. but for much wider profiles, it is advisable to go for an alignment.

that a half job they did, cause normally balance is all 4 tires and cost $20

I did in YHI $20 for balancing and $50 for aligment

Do you mean wheel balancing, not tyre balancing?

Most of the time, the tyre shop refer to checking on the wheels alignment

It is better to go for wheels alignment if you change the tyre profile when replacing tyre

How do you expect a side slip to do the job?

Really disappointed with Comfortdelgro (Spark) for this half-past six job. Mechanics probably rushing to go home at 12:30pm on Saturday, without properly balancing the tyres for me after rotating.

Ended up I have to go to Shell to do the balancing. The front balancing at Shell (in the afternoon) helped to reduce the bumpiness a little. At night, I went to the petrol station to pump until my 4 tyres are of the same pressure. That further reduced the rockiness (Before that front tyre pressure was higher than the back ones).

I was quite surprised that they did not bother to check the pressure (not to mention proper balancing) after rotating the tyres for me.

Check yr tire pressure 1st. I suspect ty over-inflate yr tires.

I prefer not to go to thse places u mentioned cos sometimes e worker really no experience n end up so many problems.

Fr proper computerised 4 wheel alignment can try Kennys alignment at AMK autopoint.

Fr simple 4 wheel balancing n rotation, Kennys can still do but most good tire shops can also do it but u check tire pressure when ty pump.

Maybe ty over-inflate so yr tire wear out faster n ty hope u go back to them to get new tires. All these shops got many tricks to cheat yr $ but ty also put u n others at risk as yr car might skid n injure someone.

not sure for your ride, but it's quite normal for FR cars to have a higher recommended pressure in the front as the front is heavier...

Ya i think u r right. Only alignment.

Anyway most tire shops can do a decent balancing but just hv to watch them. After a couple of times u can see if ty good or not. Normal abt $5 per wheel.

I wil try kennys next time fr alignment n soh bros fr balancing.

My previous tire shop getting fm bad to worse so im not going to use them anymore.

No doubt about Kenny's competency and one who is a nice guy. But I always dare not ask how the hell he survives with a standard shop size with just alignment services when his neighbours are also doing alignment services together with other workshop services.

Isn't side slip means alignment? Correct me if I'm wrong..

Side-slip is 1 aspec. It tells u how much yr car will deviate fm a straight line.

Other is castor. The force that centers yr steering when u make a U turn fr example.

Last is camber. This affects yr cornering n handling.
