ABS & handbrake lights on

Hi All,

Its driving me nuts...... my ABS and handbrake lights keep turning on. It comes on intermittently.

After awhile of driving, switching off the engine (or at least pull out the key with turbo timer on but engine running), the lights will go off.

Then it might or might not come back during the rest of the journey. (Now seems to come on more frequently)

Both lights always come on together. Mech checked and found brake line leak. Replaced it but the symptoms still there. Topped up brake fluid as mech said might be caused by too low level. But I went back & played with the sensor in the reservoir..... it only turns on the handbrake lights... not the ABS.

Can anyone advise what could be the probably cause?

Thanks

The only thing I can think of is that one of the rear brake caliper piston is jammed and that can explain the brake light, abs light on and they on intermittently.

If this is the case, the caliper can be overhauled and cleaned of the debris and particles trapped in the piston. If your mech say koyak already dan change the caliper lor.

Hmm... ok, thanks.

Is there a reason its the rear calipers and not the front? Is it because of the handbrake mech in that hub at the rear left? I too think its something to do inside or thereabouts.... but I think mech is too lazy to take it apart as it is quite abit of work.

If its a simple thing like caliper overhaul.... then its alright. Can always buy the kit which comes with the seals. No need to discard lah......

Just that I hate it when repeated visits to the workshop and I still can't have it solved. <_<

Yes, its AWD.

No, I didn't forget to release the handbrake.

Besides, that would not trigger the ABS lights. I did once years ago in Cameron and realised it only after like 10 mins of driving. But even then, the no warning lights were activated then. (of course the handbrake lights were still on lah)

There is a chance that the circuitry (or something linked to the circuitry) in the area surrounding your dash board is loose. I had the same problem, and hitting/tapping the base of the steering wheel and/or the plastic covering of the steering column behind the steering wheel would cause the light to go on/off. Meaning that when i hit a bump or an imperfection in the road, the same bump could cause the lights to come on or off.

It was also my handbrake light and ABS warning light. After checking, there was nothing wrong with both the systems. Got a mechanic to check the connections and it was fine after that.

Not sure if you're facing the same issue. Mine's a Hyundai Sonata.

Thanks. But mine doesn't go off on its own.

It comes on and the only way to get it off is to pull out the key with handbrake engage. (Can be with engine off or engine still running as I've a timer). Then at times, pulling out the key also won't get it off.... till after travelling for awhile.

Wah... if its connection/electrical faults.... that's a major headache that all mechs fear......
