Wonder who invented the term "football money".....

Last time when I am a teenager buying a car. Every dealer tell me they need to collect a "football money" aka "tak kiu lui" in hokkien. Usually is range from few hundreds to a thousand. Wonder where this term come from. Issit because the boss or the sales people bet football lost alot of money so they need to collect this money to pay the bookie? [sweatdrop]

My guess is u need to pay someone to keep the "ball" rolling. The ball refers to the processes need to get the documentation.

 

I spoke english to 2nd hand dealers so they use the term "Agreement Fee" with me instead. But its the same meaning. I paid S$300 agreement fee to buy my COE car, my very 1st car long long time ago. [:|]
