Road Hoggers love them or Hate them?

I just drive according to the road traffic conditions, all cars going fast, I go fast, all cars slow, I slow, road hogger in front, no problem overtake from another lane when there's opportunity. Why stress over driving?

If one drives and scan the front traffic across all lanes about 100-400metres, you can usually spot a road hogger on the expressway giving you ample time to switch lane before you even come to his tail. I wonder how come so many people end up right behind a road hogger and then spam high beams and horns? They drive only see 5metres ahead ar?

I think U got it dude! Congrats! Now I hope others will see your light [bounce2]

sad to say road hoggers are already part and parcel of our lives, just like those tissue choppers....people queueing for condo, soft toys, cheap petrol.....etc etc ....we just have to live with it......

I pass by PIE everyday to and fro, chances of not finding hoggers is as remote as striking totos....taxis, p plate, lorries/vans, M/Cs...give up [shakehead]

I had a similar experience one of the days last week around 11pm. Just like you, I stopped using horn or high beam on road hoggers these days. In this instance, I just followed patiently behind this road hogger, a new Mark X, which was ahead of me turning right at a cross junction. After turning right, he was still crawling like 30km/h on the centre lane, so I tried overtaking him from Lane 1. Guess what? The burger sped up as well trying to race. Then he swung behind me and started high beaming me for that stetch of about 1km, even when I filtered to centre lane and then to left lane to make a left turn. He followed me through and continued to flash high beam at me until we came to the traffic light and stopped side by side. I looked at him but he didnt even dare to look back, probably realising that I am a big guy. This is one of the most ridiculous psycho I have ever encountered of late. Dunno why got such people on the road these days...

Hwahh!! This thread is back after a short hiatus in anonymity.

What a dick [thumbsdown] !! Sorry you had to encounter a farking kunt like tat mate, especailly when you didn't horn or highbeam or anything. I don't horn or highbeam these idiotas either, just overtake on the left or the right ala Malaysia b-road style. But sometimes, these Class A roadhoggers purposely position themselves in such a way that overtaking on the left is really difficult as there are other cars travelling at the same speed [furious] ! In these cases, LL tailgate lor...think happy thoughts and don't get too worked up!

oh yah.. last saturday afternoon i encountered a pick up (left lane) and a ody (right lane) driving side by side at 50kmph after KPE tunnel towards ECP and caused a long convoy machiam NDP. Both inconsiderate a** and i suspect they got a high by doing that stunt.

Hello,

Your summarized statement is simple, clear cut and easily understood. [thumbsup][thumbsup]

If you are uncomfortable with being tailgated, simple - shift to driving on the left or centre lane...

No one is forcing you to drive fast - however you also cannot force others to drive slowly

Thank you :)

Besides road hoggers, another pet peeve of mine is queue jumpers...

But two wrongs (overtaking from left is illegal) do not make one right [nosebleed]

We should not give in to road hoggers - educate them to eradicate them

I have seen road hoggers even refusing to give way to ambulances [furious]

At around 8.30pm today on the way to work along PIE changi..

the road quite clear so on normal speed around 90 to 100km/h..on lane 1..

saw one Nissan Selphy SFR201xx in front on same lane so need to slow down..

when already near him realised that speed taken only 70km/h so followed behind thought that he would give way but he didn't..

along the way I got the shock of my life he jammed brake for nothing..lucky for me for staying alert swerved to Lane 2 as the road was clear..speed forward and overtake him and then he highbeam for around a few seconds..

Changed lane to let him pass by he slows down and swerved to lane 3 and exit at Tampines..

Dont know what was he thinking .. [confused][confused][furious]

I have always admired Malaysian's driving ethic on NSH but the image was tainted by this inconsiderate vios driver. Guess what? it is of course a Singaporean driver. Singaporeans are very fond of bringing their bad attitude to overseas which only serves to reinforce foreigners' mindset of ugly singaporeans.

There are sooooo many of them that it makes me embarassed to drive there with a SGP license plate!

Normally, I just overtake them on the left whenever opportunity presents itself. I've long ago given up trying to educate them [shakehead] Anyway, I have this horrible feeling that recently, these roadhogs have learned how to purposely position themselves so that it's very difficult for people to overtake them on the left [furious] Sometimes, I even have to cut to extreme left lane in order to overtake these kunts [furious] Making me look like a reckless driver [drivingcar]

wait until next exit then try to overtake on the left. Use the additional filter out lane to the R&R/Town as your gap to overtake.

speed up and quickly shfit right before the divider.

needs practice but can be useful

most of the exits have ample space to do this

try at your own risk though :X

Sigh... earlier this morning, I was on way to woodlands (TPE/SLE), a red plate black lancer was hogging the right most lane on SLE, not much car in middle lane. I signal right to inform, no response, waited for a few secs (~ 10secs) while bout 1 car length from this joker, then this joker BRAKED infront of me!!! [furious].

After this stunt, he signaled left to go middle lane and stared back at me... WTF. My spouse was telling me forget it and carry on our journey to woodlands checkpoint. Best of all, this joker had an elderly lady sitting behind!! What the hell is he thinking!!

Please wake up your idea if you are reading this... enuff said.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience man...

You were very patient already by right signalling and not spam horning.

shld ve signal L n overtake from there n chei R back......time saved n breadth saved [sly]

Agree with you... have been doing signalling for lane changes quite often just to overtake the hoggers in their lala land thoughts...

Whatever upbringing, education and exposure, seems like the BO CHAP (+ wu li eh tai chi bo) attitude is still quite prevalent in Singapore.

A local common saying that 'Automatic' is more expensive to denote that its hard for others to be considerate as it takes more effort.

Kinda unhappy that there are MANY (more?!) singaporeans driving this way nowadays. Even the common and irritating act of speeding up to block you or horning / light flashing when you've clearly signalled and doing lane change 1/2 way out, etc is like more frequent and SOP nowadays. When you give way to others (with or without signalling), they are NOT even bothered to raise their hands to thank you for the gesture. Most of the time, i see BUS Drivers saying thank you more often than the many other car drivers on the road...

Just to share an incident some months back, I got into an argument and confrontation with another driver at the petrol kiosk because he not happy that I horned him. His car was blocking access to 3 petrol pumps cos he was queuing for either one! There was bout 5 other cars behind me with the last 3 cars queuing in from the main road. The main road is 2 lanes so outside also a small jam cos cars merging out to join the existing 1 lane that is left available.

I ask him if he does/uses the same tactic while queuing up at Fast Food restaurants and his answer to me was very simple. He told me I am infront of you all and there's nothing you can do bout it and walk away... (i LL and suck thumb) and retorted him loudly that he is a very good example for his 2 kids in the car (then treated him with a colorful dash of my dialect explaination of human body parts) while beckoning the other cars behind me while pointing my finger at this guy... unbelievable.

Anyway, i always believed in what goes around, comes around. It takes a better (bigger) man to do the right thing.
