Ixat 1st Gear June 7, 2009 Share June 7, 2009 Hi, have been using my GR80 for 50K now. Rotated front to rear every 10K. Wear rate is even between inner and outer of the tire. But the previous front tire which was rotated to the rear looks bald on the surface. But there's 0.6cm thread more before hitting the threadwear indicator in the inner tire as well as the sidewall triangle threadwear marker. Tires grip well in wet and dry. Just a little noiser than before. Its 1yr 8month old now. Should I change based on the thread wear marker or just by eyeballing the surface? Thanks! ↡ Advertisement
Furrynadz 5th Gear June 7, 2009 Share June 7, 2009 as long as the lowest depth hits below 3mm change it
Yeobh 4th Gear June 7, 2009 Share June 7, 2009 In most countries it is an offence to run on tyres with less than 1.6mm tread depth.
Jazz 2nd Gear June 8, 2009 Share June 8, 2009 Bottomline, if you feel unsafe, just change it coz it the only contact with the road surface.

The grip in dry and wet feels good just like before. Tested on a safe road. Just happen that my friend changed to a new set of GR80 and compared against mine, mine looks bad. My tire mech said another 20K at least before change is required. So tats a little confused. Thanks!

Godfinger Neutral Newbie June 8, 2009 Share June 8, 2009 (edited) U need a Depth Guage to measure the Tire Thread. Would you want to go to the extend to measure the Thread Depth? What about having uneven tire surface which is caused by Rubber hardening which our naked eyes cant really detect. Heard someone ever mentioned that 40-50K mileage is the average usage for a set of tires. Anything more is For me, I will change tires every 1 1/2 yrs or 40K of usage which ever comes first. Unless I change car in the middle of the tire usage, else I will stick to this protocol. Really like the feeling and shiokness of having new set of tires everytime I changed. Yeobh 4th Gear June 8, 2009 Share June 8, 2009 You need a depth gauge preferably a digital one.
Yeobh 4th Gear June 8, 2009 Share June 8, 2009 On the contrary uneven wears and cupping can be very easily detected by just running yr palm along the surface.
