Silklee 3rd Gear June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 My civic is due for the 30k km servicing very soon. What happens if i dont send it back to KM? Will i void warranty or something. I have been sending my car for the 1k, 10k and 20k servicing to KM. Seems to me that the servicing is very expensive. They charged me close to $300 for the 20k servicing, so I think it will be even more for the 30k one. Am I right to assume that that it will be cheaper if done elsewhere. What are the consequences if I do it elsewhere? ↡ Advertisement
Drive_carcar Clutched June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 Your Civic will suddenly disintegrate in the middle of the road when you least expect it? Just kidding! If i"m not wrong it will void your warranty. Anyway I get my Civic serviced by a 3rd party and can't be bothered too much about the warranty since they have been doing a great job, and cheaply as well. Anyway, KM's warranty also a bit one kind, they will find every excuse possible to "siam" liabilities. So it's a question of whether is it worthwhile to pay at least double compared to outside workshop, against the risk that something may just go awry in your Civic. Bullterrier Clutched June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 (edited) You can check with them in advance how much you need to pay, what items will be changed etc? If they charge you more but change many necessary items to keep your car in good working order then I dont think it is necessarily expensive. On the other hand, workshops outside may appear cheaper cos they only replace things that are broken or spoilt. So its up to you to decide for preventive maintenance or change when things are spoilt concept which could mean more inconvenience and you being stranded on the roads etc? Silklee 3rd Gear June 8, 2009 Author Share June 8, 2009 Still ended up sending my car to KM for the 30k servicing. Total cost, $401. I was told this is the standard price.
Watwheels Supersonic June 8, 2009 Share June 8, 2009 Can break down what was done to your car? Things like alignment, tire rotation and balancing you do also? But their pricing for these 3 things are same as you do outside. But bcos you do everything at their centre, of course the total sum will accumulate and look ex. When I did my 30K servicing recently, the service advisor told me it's around $300 initially(with myself providing the engine oil). When I asked how come the pricing is so expensive, he said "oh, it's the standard package.". I then asked him to break down the costs for me and realized that he "conveniently" added in the mentioned services WITHOUT telling me that it's all optional. Told him off and demanded that these optional things are taken out. I would rather pay workshops outside to do the alignment and rotating than let a SA earn that commission by telling me half truths. Take note, they also like to ask you to do engine flush during servicing too. Edited June 8, 2009 by Biglittlebean

You can buy car from AD and servicing can done outside one. Warranty cover engine only and the rest of the part are wear and tear so no cover one even gear box also no cover. I was told this is the standard price. That is exhorbitant! Which is the reason why I will be sending my ride to Autosaver. KM wants to charge $277 for a stupid 70k oil change which is . No thanks to their crappy Mobil oil either. It's better to use Amsoil or Motul. Much smoother and better protection.
Mooscenic 1st Gear June 8, 2009 Share June 8, 2009 Actually not true leh... Not all ADs are expensive. Take for example Mazda, when I had my Mazda previously, the servicing cost is low. I remember mostly paying $100+ for servicing with them and if I go to their satellite service centre and I bring my own oil, the servicing only cost $40+. This always include free rotation of the wheels. So I was very surprised then as my earlier Renault's servicing was always at least $200 up. Now I wonder if KIA will be expensive as I did my 1K servicing and had to pay $58 for mineral oil change and general services but with free labour thrown in. It seems like it will be pretty costly with C&C.
Donut Supercharged June 8, 2009 Share June 8, 2009 you shld have ask for the basic package..... KM has 2 diff packages. for 30k km, its not the major service... so choose the basic one. only 40k, 80k and so on, its considered as major servicing ↡ Advertisement
