Redstorm 1st Gear May 30, 2009 Share May 30, 2009 Has this street been renamed? I can't find it on my street directory. Over the past few decades, with rapid developments in the town and rural areas, a lot of old roads have disappeared from the map and new one built. A good example is Hock Lam Street, directly opposite the Hill St Fire Station. The whole area was torn down and on the site now stands Funan Mall (Fu Nan is the hanyu pinyin for Hock Lam). Alcapone Neutral Newbie May 30, 2009 Share May 30, 2009 Anyone remembers this street or used to live there or around? Tanjong Pagar Plaza, the site of a complex of which replaced pre-war shophouses along Tanjong Pagar Road, was formerly Cheng Cheok Street named after Khoo Cheng Cheok. Khoo Cheng Cheok is believed to be the brother of rice merchant Khoo Cheng Tiong, who was president of the Thong Chai Medical Institution. It was once an important crossroads for traffic between the warehouses along the Singapore River and the wharves. Bullock carts and hand carts streamed through the area carrying goods from one point to the other. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanjong_Pagar ↡ Advertisement
