Vibration when stationary

Just today I discovered that the whole of my car began to vibrate when it is stationary in D mode. Not sure what happens.

This vibration is more obvious when my aircon is switched on. When the aircon is off, the vibration is lesser. Compressor is about 1 year plus old from AD. Regularly change my aircon filter at every 10k mileage during servicing.

Apart from this, when it is in P mode or driving or reversing, everything remains normal. Ride is about 3 years old.

Like to seek some help on this.

Thanks in advance!

Which brand/model is your car? I was told cleaning the throttle body may help to reduce it.

Lancer CS 3.

Recently I used an oil based drop in filter for about 200 km. Can the TB be so easily and fast dirty? [sweatdrop]

what car are you driving? Sounds like the engine mounting is loose just need to replace the engine mounting if under warranty.

This is another area to look for. Really depend on your driving style and car types, the mounting may be loosened or even cracked by now. I once saw an Australian company trying to sell full set of reinforced bushings and mountings for certian car brand/model in SG. Blue in color.

What causes it to loose? Wear and tear?

ok..you changed the filter. For a quick check and elimination of possibilities, Maybe you want to change back your stock filter.

yep wear and tear........ some models (eg: mazda 6) famous for its weak engine mountings as such the rubber in the mounting wears out very fast. So when the mounting becomes loose......your car starts to rock and roll when stationary especially when air-con kicks in.

The rest of the gear modes like R and P did not make the car vibrate. Only in D mode and hand brake up. I suspect it is the TB dirty by my oil based filter which has been pre-oiled by the manufacturer.

If it is TB dirty, then it needs to be cleaned first before changing back to stock.

I have been using stock for the last 60k mileage and so far no such symptoms have happened. For a period of time, I have also used Hurricane and it was fine too.

Thanks for your advice.

That could be a likely source of problem, since you mentioned before using oil base filter there was no problem? I think there is a mass air flow sensor after the air filter, so another possibility could be the oil base filter contiminate the air flow sensor.

Hi, i hav a similar prob, tot to be associated w the a/c but the a/c clutch has been replaced and the vibration still exists.

my colt plus is 2yr+ and got 42k on the clock, when i come to a stop the car will have some vibration. still trying to figure it out but unsure which could be the cause.

1) throttle body dirty?

2) engine/gearbox mounts worn?

using stock air filter, no mods. idling when stationary and when a/c cuts in/out is normal.

can anyone advise?

(edited)

ok for vibrating/rocking&rolling cars during stationary this is what I have personally experience to solve the problem....just to share.

Check Engine Mounting

- this is the main culprit in most cases

- get the workshop to check your engine mountings

Check Spark Plugs

- worn out spark plugs can also cause this

- get workshop to use their spare alternate set for testing before deciding to change.

The following 2 is less likely but possible especially if you do not use the original stock filter. Open pods and after market filters are usually not very good in filtering :)

Clean Throttle Body

- easy to clean

Clean MAF sensor

- MAF sensor dirty so cannot detect the amount of air into the engine accurately

- the MAF sensor will get dirty especially if you OPEN pod yr airtake

and the illogical thinking is people have to pay to buy a vibrator.. now you got a giant one.. the ladies in your car will love you..

and check on the source of the vibrator, open your bonnet, observe the engine when it's running and then rev it. see if it move excessively anot..

this give u a rough indication on the engine mount..
