Hondacub777 6th Gear May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 Last week,my fren met a chain accident in SLE.same old story,an unknown vehicle jambraked and leaving 5 damaged cars behind. Then immediately,2 -3 workshop representives came to offer helped.my fren inform his insurance and ask them to get LtA to provide some leads from the sky cam.But credit to those idiots, they chose the blind spots where the cam cant catch it[furious] .My question is,are there no other ways to catch these #$%kers? ↡ Advertisement
Vextan 1st Gear May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 even if you manage to identify the vehicle whcih jam break you cant prove his intention at all. the vehicles behind are suppose to keep a safe distance to stop in such event.

Cjgoh Neutral Newbie May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 Personally, I think the 'Overtaking Lane' (aka Lane 1) has TOTALLY LOST its purpose, much to the habits of every motorist who drives in it and commonly forming a convoy of vehicles travelling between 70-90Kmh and above. As such, I stay CLEAR of Lane 1 because it is a deadly trap. WHY must people stay in Lane 1 and then form a convoy in which a Chain Collision is simply waiting for a ripe time to happen?? As pointed out, all it takes is just ONE idiot to jam brake, or something else to cause the one in front of the convoy to jam brake. Over & above this matter, I think Enforcement actions by the Traffic Police is insufficient as the following makes motoring in Singapore increasingly hazardous: >> Slow Lane are found to be hogged by cars and commercial vehicles end up in the middle lane either SPEEDING or hogging the middle lane. >> Middle Lane hogging is the most common annyoyances/hindrance, by both commercial and private vehicles >> Lane 1 is useless because everyone wants to stay in there which brings the speed on Lane 1 equivalent to the Middle Lane, and overtaking using Lane 1 is mostly hard to do because of motorists travelling in it at lower speeds or convoys that are long and may suddenly slow down to unpredictable events further up in front. I say the current state of Motoring Ethics in Singapore, is simply DEPLORABLE beyond words. Traffic Police please DO kindly step in, stiffer Rules & Penalties are MUCH WELCOMED. Pardon me, but I don't mean to object for the sake of objecting; during Peak Hours, driving in Lane 1 makes LITTLE or NO difference as the speed in Lane 1 is just as slow if not worse - stand still... because everyone is in it, and some are simply hogging it even during Peak Hours. It is USELESS so long as Lanes are being mis-used and driving ethics don't change.

While lane 1 and 2 are quite jammed, sometimes I get a clear stretch on lane 3, which allow me a lot more room to move. I also install an on board camera. It's a very cheapo solution using a normal digital camera mounted onto a suction type phone holder. When I have the time, I'll take some pics for you guys to refer. Cos lane 1 always very fast and furious especially morning along SLE towards CTE around 6.45 to 7 am. Plus I don't drive fast and keep within speed limit. To me, driving safely is more important for myself and other road users. Lane 3 along SLE in the morning can be described as a "forbidden city" at times. You are looking at the fastest speed of 50-60 km/h at times cos the trucks and lorries are so big and slow. That makes all the mid size lorries, commercial vans and panel vehicles coming into second lane.

There were a few times I see the whole stretch of lane 3 is quite empty until there's a slow moving vehicle far far away. That's enough space for me to filter in, speed up to 110+, then filter back into lane 2. Another thing I notice, if you don't mind slow, lane 3 is very safe as long as you are a good distance behind a heavy vehicle. Not too many bad things can happen there. Jeffang Neutral Newbie May 25, 2009 Share May 25, 2009 even the camera record everything of the accident, u also cannot get a copy of it... unless someone die in the accident, if not no way police will go get it... anyway if someone just stop and u cannot stop on time, u are at fault, as u never keep a safe distance, with camera in your car u also in the wrong, to bang from the back... 100% fault.
