i will be traveling to new zealand this june. will be there for 2 weeks. as it is winter there i might have to get some winter wear. i believe i need to get stuff like jackets, gloves and snow caps? i think in some cases i may need water proof wear too? there are quite alot of stuff i need to get but the thing is i will not be requiring them after the 2 weeks cos im not a cold country person.... i dont think i would travel to cold countries or during cold periods in the future. so alot of questions.......

what kinda winter clothings should i get e.g. the waterproof type?

is there anyway i can get cheap winter wear for that 2 weeks?

is it easy to get second hand winter wear as im sure singaporeans will not be needing it unless they travel to cold countries?

need all the advise i can get

thnx in advance [drivingcar]

i think you should just go and not think about the aftermath of your winterwear after you return.

whats the temperature range for NZ during the period you are going?

2 months ago i was trying to borrow winterwear or buy 2nd hand like you now.

eventually too much hassle and i gave up.

bought new ones at COLDWEAR for about 110 bucks.. (just the jacket).

anyway mine was 5-15 degrees country.... so 1 piece was more then enough.

You can wear the best winter wear and still feel cold.

Go buy yourself a few pairs of LONG JOHNS. Good quality ones.

2 weeks, 2-3 pairs would do you good.

Normally when dealing with snow, 3 types of layers needed.

1st is the Long johns or equivilent to keep warm. Fleece jacket will help to. Choose materials made of higher % of polyester. Cotton not really that useful imho.

2nd is the insulation against the wind chill, for e.g wind-breaker/jacket.

3rd is the waterproof layer as snow is water based, and once ur above gets wet. What also no use liao.

i said 3 layers does not mean must be 3 layers because some jackets are integreted wind and water proof.

Gloves, if you going to touch snow, pls have water proof ones and follow the above points.

If the place u r going have a strong gale or wind, suggest to have a face buff and beanie that covers the EARS (the ears and fingers hurts the most).

A lot depend on which part of NZ you are going and what you plan to do there. For most part of NZ, the winter is not very cold...lowest around 3 degree celsius with a high of around 15 degree celsius.

New zealand is not so cold as northern countries like russia and canada. Went South Island during july and temp was between 8 to 17 unless u go up mountains or glaciers . If u are going North Island, much warmer. Just a long john, a sweater ,a wind- breaker and a good pair of winter socks will do.

i do not have the 1st and 3rd layer. as for the 3rd layer might as well get a water resistant one to suit any situation. thanks for the great tip! [thumbsup]

im covering both north and south but will be focusing mainly on queenstown. i plan to go skiing, glacier walks and stuff. most of the ski fields are not opened yet. the coronet peak will be opened soon. the temp there is 2 degrees the latest i checked.
