Bibill 1st Gear August 29, 2009 Share August 29, 2009 (edited) Ok I am lazy. Want to ask if anyone test drove a Scirocco 1.4 yet? Road tax looks attractive. Also any owners can share their experiences? Edited August 29, 2009 by Bibill ↡ Advertisement
Fatfat Neutral Newbie August 29, 2009 Share August 29, 2009 Yes, I never trusted the reliability of the DSG. It is still a new gearbox in the mkt and many European makes are jumping the bandwagon. A manual stick is still the best for a performance car. If you look at the brochures of the cars, VW Golf for instance, it is a manual inside. From what I know, Layauto brings in the manual Sirocco. But limited units.. Hi Pandaeyes, I politely disagree. DSG is the one of the reasons why so many VWs are on the roads here. cannot say its new technology anymore, been around for some time and usage proven. You are correct to say that a manual stick is the best for a performance car. Mine is a DSG, but i would not call it a performance car, rather a sports hatch sound more apt. cheers. Fatfat Neutral Newbie August 29, 2009 Share August 29, 2009 i got a question about VW scirocco. sorry i dont know alot about cars. any pros care to share their views? the price difference between the 1.4 and 2.0L model is about 30k which is quite a big gap. i looked thru the specs for both models. the 1.4 model 0-100km/h pickup is 8s and for the 2.0L model is 7.1s. which is a difference of only 0.9secs. 30k more for 0.9sec faster pick up? the 1.4 TSI DSG model has 160bhp. is it sufficient power for the car? sorry if my question sucks. lol =) Hi Pigkachu, Cannot use 0-100km/h timing to gauge the difference in price, there are alot of intangible variables involved, in addition to the visual add-ons. in short, 1.4 TSI is more than sufficient. A simple ECU remap(which is already available for this model) will bring the bhp to almost the 2L variant, if raw BHP is your measurement for a fast car. cheers. Mezzanine Neutral Newbie August 29, 2009 Share August 29, 2009 so whats the diff between a supercharged and turbocharged engine?
Vega Turbocharged August 29, 2009 Share August 29, 2009 so whats the diff between a supercharged and turbocharged engine? turbocharger uses exos gas to spool the turbo and force induce more air into the engine. this is prone to lag as it takes more time for the turbo to spool. Superchargers are powered mechanically by belt- or chain-drive from the engine's crankshaft. therefore, no lag. In the 1.4 and 1.6L twin charge engine, both the super and turbo charger compliment each other.

Fourth 2nd Gear August 29, 2009 Share August 29, 2009 Get the Scirocco! And better if 2L. More chio and fast. But suitable more for young people and not family type. Base on both criteria I am out.
Paddie 3rd Gear August 29, 2009 Share August 29, 2009 Ok I am lazy. Want to ask if anyone test drove a Scirocco 1.4 yet? Road tax looks attractive. Also any owners can share their experiences? Tested this car a few weeks ago. All I can say is... WOW. The 1.4 engine is amazingly zippy and also extremely smooth. At low revs you can hear the supercharger work in the background, then it transitions to the turbo stage and yet the power is delivered in one smooth wave. The DSG is fantastic too. I absolutely love the Scirocco 1.4. I think it's the best car under $100K you can buy now, assuming you don't need 4 doors.

Vega Turbocharged August 30, 2009 Share August 30, 2009 i test driven both the 1.4 and 2.0L. both are equally fun to drive. of cos the 2L comes with more "toys" like ACC, roof, bi-xenon, etc. as the 1.4 is supported with the supercharger, you get the feel that the car is charging forward at very low rpm. like a raging bull!! if you like this kind of feel, 1.4L is for you but not as comfortable as it will be jerky for your passengers. as for the 2L, is more comfortable at lower rpm. when u need more power, just step more and let the turbo do the "talk"... haha.... Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear August 30, 2009 Share August 30, 2009 I quite enjoyed the 2L Scirroco. No turbo lag as it reaches max torque at very low rpms. Good car.
Joenathanael Neutral Newbie September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 Hello, The Scirocco is supposedly very low (as in height) and that gives better centre of gravity. Does that mean it will not clear humps easily? Will it hit low kerbs when reverse parked?

Tanly Neutral Newbie September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 Yeah I could prolly tell them my Nippon sedan can break my carpark legal speed limit in 1 sec [laugh] W SCIROCCO 2.0 TSI | VW SCIROCCO 1.4 TSI Engine: 1,984cc 16v inline 4 turbocharged | 1,390cc 16v inline 4 dualcharged Transmission: 6-speed dual-clutch | 7-speed dual-clutch Power: 200bhp @ 5,100-6,000rpm | 160bhp @ 5,800rpm Torque: 280Nm @ 1,700-5,000rpm | 240Nm @ 1,500-4,500rpm 0-100 kmh: 7.1s | 8.0s Top speed: 235kph | 218kph Price: $117,800 (w COE) | $95,700 Distributor: Volkswagen Centre Singapore Maybe its a typo. 7.1s is the manufacturer's timing for the 2.0T. 2 full seconds for the last 10km/h is highly unlikely, but its only my guess. Autocar europe has probably got the individual acceleration segment timings. Interested parties can dig it out for verification. Anyway, the audi distributor ad for the sirocco reeks of desperation to mislead. they might as well use 70km/h which is nicoll highway's limit anyway.
