Raffy1996 Neutral Newbie May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 Too many initial teething problems with the engine technology and transmission IMHO. Not a car you would want to consider for long-term reliability - at least for now. Mating a twin-charge engine (SC+TC) with FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) and a dry-clutch DSG may appear good on paper and the initial test drive ..... BUT ..... Just go to vagsg.com to hear lamenting of stalling engines, jerky start/stop driving, rough idling, excessive vibrations and many more. Let the others who had bought be the guinea pigs and live with their problems. I'd wait until VAG has sorted out all the inherent design issues, before re-visiting this 'best of all worlds' engine and transmission technology. Har? 1.4TSI is twin-charged but not the 2.0 - which is tc & also a wet clutch. Haven't read any stalling engines in vagsg leh... ↡ Advertisement
Pandaeyes Neutral Newbie May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 Yes, I never trusted the reliability of the DSG. It is still a new gearbox in the mkt and many European makes are jumping the bandwagon. A manual stick is still the best for a performance car. If you look at the brochures of the cars, VW Golf for instance, it is a manual inside. From what I know, Layauto brings in the manual Sirocco. But limited units..

Sturtles 6th Gear May 24, 2009 Share May 24, 2009 (edited) In case you weren't reading a few posts up, it says 5.1 secs to break highway speed limit, not 0-100kph. W SCIROCCO 2.0 TSI | VW SCIROCCO 1.4 TSI Engine: 1,984cc 16v inline 4 turbocharged | 1,390cc 16v inline 4 dualcharged Transmission: 6-speed dual-clutch | 7-speed dual-clutch Power: 200bhp @ 5,100-6,000rpm | 160bhp @ 5,800rpm Torque: 280Nm @ 1,700-5,000rpm | 240Nm @ 1,500-4,500rpm 0-100 kmh: 7.1s | 8.0s Top speed: 235kph | 218kph Price: $117,800 (w COE) | $95,700 Distributor: Volkswagen Centre Singapore Maybe its a typo. 7.1s is the manufacturer's timing for the 2.0T. 2 full seconds for the last 10km/h is highly unlikely, but its only my guess. Autocar europe has probably got the individual acceleration segment timings. Interested parties can dig it out for verification. Anyway, the audi distributor ad for the sirocco reeks of desperation to mislead. they might as well use 70km/h which is nicoll highway's limit anyway. But limited units.. it's not that the brochures don't think highly of DSG, its just that for road cars, most europeans drive manual so the brochures naturally reflect that. of course for high end super cars, no one cares and happily drive expensive gear systems. but you're right, the reliability of a DSG type system will definitely be less reliable than a normal auto. But i won't go as far as to say its unreliable. just maybe that extra odd failure as compared to normal auto. And i fully agree, manual is the best. if i had my way, i wont get anything else. Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear May 25, 2009 Share May 25, 2009 (edited) DSG has been around for some time. Last 20km/hr is harder to achieve than first 20km/hr. The 2L 200bhp Scirocco needs 7.1 sec is not surprising. DC5R has 220bhp and it takes about 6+ sec. DC5R weighs 1.2T, whereas the Scirocco weighs about 1.4T. But good thing about the Scirocco, both 1.4 and 2L ver, is that max torque is there from 1500rpm onwards. Very daily driveable, whereas the DC5R is more a track based car to be revved hard. Paddie 3rd Gear May 25, 2009 Share May 25, 2009 Manual is still best for driving fun, but DSG cars are actually both quicker AND more economical than manuals. That's quite hard to ignore...
Pigkachu Neutral Newbie June 27, 2009 Share June 27, 2009 i got a question about VW scirocco. sorry i dont know alot about cars. any pros care to share their views? the price difference between the 1.4 and 2.0L model is about 30k which is quite a big gap. i looked thru the specs for both models. the 1.4 model 0-100km/h pickup is 8s and for the 2.0L model is 7.1s. which is a difference of only 0.9secs. 30k more for 0.9sec faster pick up? the 1.4 TSI DSG model has 160bhp. is it sufficient power for the car? sorry if my question sucks. lol =)
Vega Turbocharged June 28, 2009 Share June 28, 2009 (edited) i am not a pro but here is my input. the 2.0L comes with these additional : ACC, pano roof, bi xexon headlight, reverse sensor that is integrated to the HU. other minor things like rims and exos tail pipe tip. It is using a 6 speed wet DSG as compare to the 1.4L dry 7 speed DSG. if you are those power hungry and want to mod you car, there is this much of power the 1.4L can do. i won't recommend anything about 230 bhp (160 bhp for stock) for the 1.4 as the gear box may not able to take it in the long run. the 1.4 in itself is already very fun to drive. its really depending on what u want.
