Mivec9 1st Gear May 20, 2009 Share May 20, 2009 Pls share with us the kind of training that is involved. Dun think I can do it, with the temperature at -40C and the strong winds blowing on your face. Br.. too cold to even move...much less climbing up Mount Everest. i'm not quite sure to go summit what's the exact training. but definitely u need to be good with ice-climbing and rock climbing. I didnt go for these as base camp do not need much of climbing, but lots of uphill walking. i took 18days trekking then. it is easy to get AMS (acute mountaineous sickness) but trick is not to dehydrate by drinking lots of water. i got mild ams at the base camp. Mivec9 1st Gear May 20, 2009 Share May 20, 2009 Climb up there needs lots of $$$$$$ too right ? I've seen many documentary on it b4, a group of 10 climbers might need at least twice the nepaless helpers to bring along food and supplies. The climbers dont carrying everything from start to end right ? the sherpas will carry tentage, food and such. for us, we carry day-packs. it will be silly to carry heavy day pack. just carry essentials will do. Mivec9 1st Gear May 20, 2009 Share May 20, 2009 The permit itself can cost up to US$25,000 to apply for each person scaling the Mt Everest, this is payable to the government of Nepal of course. before it was open to public, think it was free or pay small sum. after opened, also not so much until hilary's excitment, the $$ goes skyhigh. And this is the amt that is the main obstacle stopping alot of ppl.
Chevy88 Neutral Newbie May 21, 2009 Share May 21, 2009 Not to discredit them as I believe they have done us proud for our little country but IMO if they could just have done it to raise funds for those 3rd world countries especially Africa, I believe that will be even more gratifying. Becos looking at this, it just boils down to our own ego again. Since sillypore is known for N0.1 in everything, why not gave our humanitarian spirit as this will be for a good cause and raise awareness to pple around the world. All over the world, pple are just too caught up in this economic crisis now n they tend to forget those less fortunate. Let's us make this world a better place for everyone in this planet EARTH. With all due respect, if we go help Africa, our detractors will say why not help South America? Another group will say why not help Indonesia? Where will this end? Let's face it, when we help these foreign countries, it will never be enough. Do you remember the Indonesian Minister whining away when we helped them in relief efforts and donations, yet still claiming we should contribute more. When will the buck stop?
