Abstract from the above link,

For the National University of Singapore (NUS), all overseas school trips have been put on hold till May 15. Every year, more than 1,200 students from NUS are sent overseas for attachments.

NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost, Tan Eng Chye, said: "Just last Saturday, one of my colleagues met up with some parents and students who were appealing to go to the United States for a Formula One car competition.

"It's interesting, I think, the parents actually wanted the school to guarantee the safety of the students, which I think we can't. In the end, we explained to the parents and students that we can't let them go."

I can't believe these parents actually ask NUS to guarantee the safety of the students should they go US to participate F1 car competition. Are they trying to act smart by pushing the responsibilties and liabilites to NUS so that if something happens they can launch a lawsuit or are they just plain stupid or naive???

Why those NUS staff never rebute back to the parents, can the parents guarantee their children grow up to be a useful ppl in the society or a pest in the society.

this sentence already tells us the president is making a sarcastic remark on the parents.

those parents might as well ask NUS to guarantee them with warranty, chop and 1 to 1 exchange should their children suffer any mishap....the students of these parent should just ask their parent to "SHUT UP and SIT DOWN", if not just jump off one of the buildings in NUS for having such a brainless parent.

so whats next? parents asking companies to guarantee their kids with a job for life when they first join?

these parents are creating a nation of wimps.

Already reflected in the SAF when i serve my ICT.

1) There is this NSF guy with a cut so minor that its the size of a mosquito bite... wants to be sent to medical center

2) excuse climbing stairs (first time i heard)

3) excuse loud noise (first time i heard)

Let's see now... these are kids above 18 years old, maybe for boys they are above 21 years old after NS. And their protective parents are still in the picture?

Good grief!

What are these NUS students? Children going on excursions? They are already adults, parents should let them decide for themselves. At most remind them of the consequences.

This kinda chance to go overseas attachment is once in a lifetime, I'm sure the students dun wanna miss it but the parents are over-protective asking for the impossible.
