Yuan 6th Gear May 9, 2009 Share May 9, 2009 tried Motul 300V 10W 40 Double Ester 2 litres @$65 & Redline 10w 40 with polyol ester base 1 quart (approx 1 litre) @$17.50 change fresh oil @5000 km both quite close in my opinion but great priced difference. both contains molybdenum disuphide which reduces friction, Motul contains more moly than Redline so now on Redline but willing to try others , like Amsoil, Voltronics, if feedback is better than Redline I have not tried Redline before. Maybe my next oil change will try. I am on Voltronics for 3 consecutive rounds. Engine is smooth and quiet for at least the first 8k mileage. After that, can feel that it starts to get a bit coarse at times but still acceptable and FC remains the same. I stretch it slightly past 10k mileage. Downside to this oil is the cost. ↡ Advertisement

Could have gone further, but I decide to change.

Change to either xw30 oil should be about as much as you save for fc. For bring-your-own oil, you have to check with the workshop. Some don't allow, some are ok. The reasons they don't allow is bcoz otherwise they can't make money out of you.

Freifeit Neutral Newbie May 11, 2009 Share May 11, 2009 I DIY_ed the OC yesterday and my findings on used SHU (after 11k kms) are as follows: 1) no thickening; 2) felt smooth (with my fingers) & 3) no sludge (i used a white filter mat to filter out the used oil for inspection). This is the 3rd time I handled the SHU OC. The results were consistant for the 3 OCs. I should have taken the pictures but I was busy for other maintenance (ATF flushing & TB cleaning). Anyway, the best way to decide on oil quality is send for oil analysis as mentioned my MCF experts..

Dwoon 1st Gear May 12, 2009 Share May 12, 2009 Want even thinner oil than 20 wt..... can try carrefour, giant, ntuc of even your neighbouring provision store.... There's this brand called Knife oil you know. I think the closet that we can get after 20wt is those with no rating one in the market. Not cheap . Dwoon 1st Gear May 12, 2009 Share May 12, 2009 To be honest, I don't feel any diff in oil brands when it is freshly changed. Only if there is a viscosity difference. (Thicker feels smoother and runs a tad quieter) The diff between the brands is noticed when the oil goes past 5K kms. That's when the test starts for me...... better oils last longer without engine running rough.
